Hey everyone I decided with me now having 2 jobs I'd start an ork army to add to my iron warriors, and here is the first attempt at a speed freak ork! Also my first time trying rust effects and first time trying out the texture paint. Pretty happy with the result although I'm still not sure if I'm gonna do the evil Sunz squiggles on just the important characters or all of my boyz too. C&c welcome

I did like the rust/copper. Now...time for the assembly line...which will never get any of your boyz fully done, but will do good at getting the slowly presentable.
I'm still working on mine, most never got past the primer stage....it's gonna take a while.

There is not this idea.

Excellent first ork on all counts. Looks like a bit of the base got on his boot, but that's not a bad thing if you meant it to be mud.

Fantastic first ork, good paint job!

The armies that I collect:

- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.

(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent)

that looks really good. only thing i would say is that the red parts are a little too flat
I really need practice my skin technique and layering so this is good inspiration for that

I'm not that much of an expert painter, any tips on giving depth to the red areas? Maybe just a wash of seraphim sepia?

To bring some depth to the red, take a look at the pictures you have of the back and front of the model. See how the light reflects down the length of the axe? There's your guide for what a highlight should look like, done in a lighter red. Then, as you said, a wash will help pull the colours together and add a bit of shade. It looks like a bit more shading between the belt and pants could help distinguish them from each other too, with them both being brown, but otherwise that's a right propa-looking Orky. Keep it up!
