Typical question, are the melta guns in the B@C the only acceptable form of melta guns in 30k? Or can you use the modern 40k ones? I'm also going to extend this question to flamers and plasma guns, despite their 30k counterparts being more awesome, I'm running low on them.

There's no turning back... Triumph or oblivion.

As long as your opponent is aware of what is what¹ it shouldn't be a problem. There might be a few fluff purists out there that would look at you a bit sideways for using a particular pattern millennia before it was created but that still shouldn't be a problem.

¹ as long as models a and b are indicated to be weapon 1 and neither a nor b are ever any other type of weapon….

My two legions have always been normal style until the BaC stuff came out. Its pretty obvious what they are. If anything I have had questions on what the BaC versions were.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Most of the weapon patterns in 40k still existed in 30k I believe, they just might have been rarer. You'd have to be a complete arse to have an issue with something like that anyway, a plasma gun is a plasma gun, if anything the 40k ones are more recognisable to most people so it's not like it'd be an issue in game.

Yeah, most weapon patterns in 40k were already around in 30k.
The Ryza pattern plasma gun (the one that comes in the BaC box) was by far the most common in the Great Crusade and Heresy, but there is no mention whatsoever of it being the only pattern.

The same is true for power armor. MK7 was around at the time, in fact, I think it was what the Blood Angels on Murder wore.

No, fluffwise MkVII went into production on Luna (after the loss of Mars) just in time to be used at during the Siege of Terra.

The Blood Angels had MkIII on Murder.

Mk. VI was available to certain legions though, and Mk. V is not a real, deliberately designed mark, apart from the helmet, so suits like it could turn up nearly any time.

MkVII was around later in the heresy. The Imperial Fists took it from Mars when they quashed the rebellion there, so they had it at the siege of Terra (and I guess they might've shared it with the Blood Angels and White Scars).

No, they did not take the MkVII armour, nor did they quash a rebellion on Mars. The Imperium and loyalist Mechanicum realised they could not hold Mars against the traitor Mechanicum and Horus, so they evecuated the researchers working on the MkVII. It then finished development on Terra.

Ah, that then. I know the IF had MkVII on Terra and I know there was a war on Mars, I must've pieced the rest together wrong. I don't think we've had any fiction on that yet, none that I've read anyway.

There was a novel about it. Mechanicum, I think. Though it was easy to miss the "Mars rebelling against the Emperor" sub plot behind the main "Oh noes! The Dragon really is on Mars!" main plot.
