I've been planning my Abyssal Dwarf list and want to run the Inspiring talisman on my Ironcaster, meaning it won't be available to my allies in the list (either Goblins or Varangur, both of whom if I included a character would be tempted to run a wizard, who is not Inspiring naturally).

How important do you find it is to have Inspiring for every unit, especially allied ones? It seems much more important for the Goblins with their low Nerve, but then again if I'm running them as chaff units maybe I don't care. Do people run allies with no hero at all?

I'd love some general thoughts, and can also share the lists I'm working on if that's helpful? It's all going to the painter in a week so I will actually be able to get some games in soon

Inspiring is mainly best to have when one source of inspiring can cover 2-3 units, it works better for the core of the battleline, or on units you expect to be taking some damage.

With flank or support units it isn't as important to have them inspired unless you have a lot of points invested into them, units like knight hordes probably need a mounted character in support.

Recommend using allies for the support element (shooting, chaff or fliers/ flankers etc.) rather than as part of the core battle line. That way the lack of inspiring doesn't hurt them as much.

I posted up my list with the ally modules I'm thinking to try swapping in - let me know what you think

I think for some armies the sources for Inspiring are so bad I would almost consider them a tax(Ogres). I have been messing around with lists that have 0 inspiring units. I plan on using it this week.

It depends on the Allies. For example, I don't feel like the range goblins I am adding to my orcs need inspiring, but if I wanted to add a regiment of knights from kingdoms of men I would try to fit an inspiring source.
