I have been thinking of starting a grey knight army. For one i don't really know where to start but eventually i want to end with a rather big Grey Knight army. and because of this i wanted to ask help before deciding.
How do i start one, what to get first, etc. those questions are some i would like to get an answer to.

i'm not a completely new player to warhammer 40k. but i'm one of the really bad players. because i have only played 3 games till now.

You only need one troops for foc. I'd start with a box of terminators, a librarian (either convert one or buy a plastic one, but remember to get a terminator armoured) a strike squad to build as interceptors, and two dreadknights. You can fit that in 1k and will be a good list to start gaming with.

Do i need the codex to?

Yeah if you want to play the game you will. Don't expect too much though.

Do i need to follow a specific color scheme or can i paint them whatever i want?

They are traditionally silver, but paint them however you want mate, they're your models.
