Subject: Cheap psychic detachments?

So out of the all the imperium forces what would be the best way to bring a psyker into an army. The psyker will most probally used just to get prescience to buff some other units. What would be the most effective but also not too costly in points way to bring a psychic presence to my adeptus mechanicus force?

What about an Inquisitor?
Inquisitor with mastery level 1: 55 points. Extra if you want those fantastic servo skulls.
It also unlocks up to 3 squads of minions. The minimum squad size is 3. Hmm. Two pskers, plus one acolyte with boltgun - each squad would be 25 points.

Thanks! I believe you can take just an inquisitor on his own as a detachment or am I just getting mixed up again?

You can take up to 2 inquisitors in a single inquisitorial detachment.
Mallich i suggesting the Psyker henchman, they are 10 points, generate from Divination,Pyromancy, Santic, Telepathy, Telekinesis....the cheapest WC you are going to find.
Although you could just take 2 acolytes with one psyker for 18 pts. for a warband.

As the cost to Upgrade an Inquisitor to become a Psyker is more than the cost of adding a 2x Acolyte + Psyker Warband, you're generally better off taking more non-psychic Inq's than to upgrade them.
The offset to this, is that a Psychic Inq can join a larger squad [on foot] for protection, instead of being a 3-man kill point.
Taking a Psychic Inq with Manabatteries [Who here played Magic, back in the day? ] Lets you put a Psyker someplace with a bunch of dudes to buff, while hiding the squishies out of the way to be pure WC dice generators.
You can have 2x Psychic Inquisitors, 3x Manabatteries for 164 points... if you want. That lets you have 2x Inq to join other squads to buff them, while the warbands hide out, maybe camp an objective or something.
Raw Power you'd want to look at the AM's Psykanna Division, from Mont'Ka. Brotherhoods of Psykers that harness WC on a 2+, that generate disproportionate amounts of dice. If you want a Daemon Factory, they're the ticket.

You're correct. An inquisitorial detachment consists of 1 inquisitor (compulsory). The optional slots are 0-3 henchman warbands, and 0-1 extra inquisitors, if I recall correctly.

I wanna second AM's psykanna division. I don't think you will get more cost efficent. Not only do they generate lots of dice they are super efficient at using them, and negate most of the penalties for perils as well. Something would have to generate twice the amount of warp charges for their points to compare to this formation.

I actually used the Psykana Division for the first time last night. I was able to swamp my opponent in blood letters but not much else. I took the bare bones formation plus 2 additional commissars for the other units. The first turn was great I summoned a bunch of daemons and screened myself. But after that my opponent smartly shot at each individual unit of psykers lowering my WC generation by 3 a turn. The formation survived the game but after being shot at enough and surrounded I ran out of places to put daemons and ended up misshaping my summoning 3 times, and was denied sacrifice every time I cast it. They did a lot of annoying my opponent and held back about 1k points of DA the entire game. I would recommend at least 6-7 psykers per unit. Because some will die..due to perils mostly....even behind an ADL going to ground I lost a few to shooting.

Hmm this formation sounds great! Only problem is it sounds like you have to go all out or nothing to make it really work.
Has only tried the libarius conclave from the space marines? How has it worked out in games?

Specific to the Daemon Factory... you're going to perils EVERY TIME you try to summon. The Librarius Conclave is going to *poof* more or less in two turns, tops, while the Psykanna Division sacrifices a single 10 point duder per try... and you can have 20 of them plus Primarus and a couple of Commies for about 300 ish points... and hide them out of LOS for the love of the unholy powers.
The Conclave is good for non-Daemon Factory, as you can hide the Librarians in squads, to keep them alive while you buff a variety of units / Death Star a single one. But again, by the time you have 3x Lv 2 Libbys that's almost 300 points there. More if you take the intelligent route and use Tigurius, more like 400 points at that.
I have yet to use either... Daemon summoning isn't my idea of fun and I like CAD for my Marines... so it depends what you want to do.

I just want to bring pskers into my ad mech force. Not really a fan of summoning though and they will mainly be used just to buff my army

The formation is only like 305 points which is pretty cheap.
The librarian formation is 195+. Iv'e seen it used to middling success. The problem is to get the 2+ spell casting you need to have only one unit casting spells, so you can only get one of each spell off. Whereas the psykanna can cast 3-4 of the same spell. Still if you put all the librarians on bikes it can make a nasty death star.

a Culexus at 140? not much of a buffer, but it can shut down your opponent.

bring 2 inquisitors at 55 points each (they are Ic's and can be attached to another squad, and bring a psyker and two acolytes for 18 points a pop. SO you can bring a total of 5 psykers that generate 5 WC for a total of 164 points. two of the are Ic's and 3 are war bands but they are small and can escort other units or even be an obstacle or screen if need be.
