Hi,
I'm not sure if this is your cup of tea.
Here is a link to a Hordes of the Things battle report,
I posted on my blog today.
We played Ancient Greeks versus Orcs with single based 28mm miniatures,
using regiment bases with a 80 mm frontage.
The miniatures are from GW and Wargames Foundry.
The game is part of a map-based campaign I'm currently playing with a couple of friends.
HotT is one of my favorite games at the moment.
I hope you enjoy the battle report.
Cheers,
Karl

Thanks for sharing. You don't see much HoTT lately.

Looks like a fun game. I tried HoTT in 28mm a while back and it wasn't my cup-o-tea, but it was easy to see the elegance of the game and why it and it's related games had been so widely used.

It got a reprint in 2014, but I think it might be out of print again.
I didn't buy 2.1, but IIRC, it wasn't well-received because it was overpriced, only available from amazon and I don't think it changed much besides a couple of new army lists and improved diagrams. It seems to have an original author who isn't particularly interested in seeing it improved or even re-released.
I think most folks are still playing the purple 2.0 edition or the free edition (which I think was 2.0?) that was online until 2.1 came out and the publisher took it down. At this point, finding the old 2.0 PDF is probably your best bet.
A semi useful collection of info including the changes to 2.1 is here:
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1301849/obtaining-rules
I'm going to make a forceful judgement here, but in this day of common PDF rules sales it is simply stupid that the three authors of HoTT couldn't get their act together enough to put the rules up for sale on WargamesVault or a similar site. HoTT has an unusual amount of recurring interest and name recognition for such an old (relatively unchanged) and simply presented ruleset. A PDF would net the authors far more $ than a limited overpriced print run and would make alot of old-school gamers very happy.

Honestly wargamesvault was my first port of call when I heard about it till the free pdf came to my attention. Physical books ARE just nicer (i have several rulebooks in both formats at once, makes for good bored reading at work).
Never got / saw a good explanation on the "movement units" though. Were they meant to be feet? inches? centimetres? I looked at the pdf awhile back and could just be I was too dense to spot the explanation. Should probably go back and have a look, find it right in front of my nose!

Movement units are whatever the player wants them to be. IIRC it is purposefully left undefined.
Physical books are definitely nicer. 2nd edition books still pop up for sale once in a while, but if you don't want to pay a premium on ebay, it may take some searching. I got my copy at the Little Wars flea market for a couple bucks.

Hi,
I agree. It would be nice if you could buy the rules as a pdf.
They are currently sold out.
The difference between 2.0 and 2.1 is minimal.
The movement rates of two elements have been switched:
Shooters are slower now and Warbands faster.
The movement range depends on the scale of the miniatures and size of the bases you use.
If you use 15 mm miniatures, a base width of 40 mm is recommended.
In this case a warband element in good going could move 3 inches and shooters could move 2 inches.
I use 28 mm miniatures and just double all the measurements.
Cheers, Karl
