Now I know normally plague marines are taken in 5 man squads but what do you people think about running 7 man squads can it work or not?

Papa Nurgle will smile upon your squad and lend his fatherly embrace of contagion to your cause. Though you may want to keep quiet about your user-name in his presence...

In other words, its fluffy so do it. And you can still take your two melta/plasma guns.

Tactically it's not bad. Plague marines are tough, so having a few more than 5 models can make them a pain for the enemy.

7 Plague marines is a much better option than 6 Noise Marines, 8 Berserkers, or 9 Thousand Sons.

I used to run them in 7s for fluff reasons. They work reasonably well are two more plague marines are always harder to kill. It's less effective points to special weapon ratio, but it's fluffy.

It can be okay, but for fitting everything in the army I've never exceeded more than 6 in a squad.

I would always go either 3 units if 5 or two units of 7. No more, no less.

I still do so. I curse that I can only take 6 squads of troops in a CAD though, but I do have 7 squads of 7, each with dual special weapons.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I'd be impressed if you could get that many of them onto the table.

My thinking at 1000 points is
HQ
Chaos Lord on Bike with Mark of Nurgle Power Fist Sigil of Corruption

Troops
7 Plague Marines with 2 Plasma Guns Rhino
7 Plague Marines with 2 Plasma Guns Rhino

Fast Attack
7 Chaos Bikers with Mark of Nurgle 2 Plasma Guns
Heavy Support
Obliterator with Mark of Nurgle
Obliterator with Mark of Nurgle

I wouldn't use them in such a large squad number at 1000 points. 5 will serve you fine. I'd also lose 2 Bikers.

I'm going 7 man squads for fluff reasons

When I was using them in 6th edition, I went with 7 man squads.

I found the extra two bodies helped me to keep the plasma guns alive just a little bit longer. Without them, I found that I was losing PG guys a touch earlier than I would normally like.

7 is good for the plague marines.

But bikes don't get the defensive benefits of a FNP and are still just tough one wound models.

I have tried using 6, with the Lord added (to make it 7) but I find with the bikers, less is actually more.

I always thought that 3 was also a Nurgle number (with his symbol and all) so I would have oblits, terminators, and characters DS on the board in that little 3 circle formation.

So I totally get it with fluff so do it. But the above is right that especially in boxes 5 is superior. Those points for the other two can be better allocated but also for friendly and FLGS games youre gonna be fine doing 7, and you will enjoy it more.
