Looking to play a small Blood Host detachment this weekend with a friend. Casual game; he'll be fielding some form of Loyalists. He has IG, Ravenguard, Vanilla SM and Grey Knights to choose from. I'm trying to decide if I should go for a "more bodies=more BT", or a stronger armor presence with a Soul Grinder. Here are two lists I've worked out:

List 1

Slaughtercult

HQ - Chaos Lord - Kor'Lath the Axe of Ruin, Bike

Chaos Cultists -
7 Autopistol/CC
7 Autogun

Possessed - in a Rhino with Dozer Blades

Troops -
8 Bloodletters w/ Banner of Blood
8 Bloodletters w/ Banner of Blood

Gorepack

Chaos Bikers -
2 identical min squads - one Meltagun, Icon of Wrath, Champ has Melta Bombs+Power Sword

Flesh Hounds - One unit

List 2

Slaughtercult

HQ - Chaos Lord - Kor'Lath the Axe of Ruin

Possessed - in a Rhino with Dozer Blades

Troops -
8 Bloodletters w/ Banner of Blood
8 Bloodletters w/ Banner of Blood

Gorepack

Chaos Bikers -
2 identical min squads - one Meltagun, Champ has Power Sword

Flesh Hounds - One unit

War Engine

Soul Grinder - Warpsword + Phlegm Bombardment

So, I'm giving up the Cultists, the Lord's bike and some melta bombs to make room for the Soul Grinder. My question would be if the Grinder is worth the 2 BT points and Obj camping of the Cultists I lose....

Not sure why your letters need a banner with them. Lord is best suited on a juggar to scout forward with the dog pack. You want two melta guns on your bikes over a single shot and a power sword you may never need. I'd take the Soul grinder but forget the warp sword. Axe of ruin isn't all that great in low points games. I'd rather your lord be a beatstick. Forget objective camping. If something dies summon something on your back objective. You're khorne, all out blood bath How about this?
Lord: Juggar, LC, Goredrinker, sigil
Letters- reaper
Letters-reaper
Possessed in rhino
Soulgrinder, phlegm
Gorepack
2xBikes 2 melta, melta bombs
6 flesh hounds

You want reapers in your bloodletters to win/lose in challenges for more BT.

But that said I find letters really under perform in the cult troop slot as opposed to berserkers in a rhino which always do great for me (I also give them 2 plasma pistols and power axe/melta bomb on champ).

Also....to make a demon prince or thirster you need mortal champions which are hard to come by in later turns.

Always always take 2x 1-man units of spawn in the cult. They are so versatile it hurts (line breaker, grab objectives, eat overwatch, die for a bloodpoint). Same goes for taking 2 min squads of cultists.

I agree with this. I usually use my Bloodletters to safely bring in other units with instrument. I figure if I mishap 80 points of blood letters the match won't be made or broken. Mishapping a Soul Grinder or Skull Cannon on the other hand....

Thanks for the advice everyone. Stupid of me to not think about the Challenge BT from the Reapers. I like the Juggerlord idea. What do y'all think about the Blade of Endless Bloodshed instead of Kor'Lath or Goredrinker? Extra BT for killing something is nice.

Blade of Endless bloodshed could be interesting. It is a melee weapon (not specialist) and does not require that you use it to get the blood point in combat. So you could wield it with an Axe of Khorne for the attack at init ap2 + decapitating blow and any kills you get you still get the extra bloodpoint and you get +1 attack.
