So I was wondering of you think using imperial guard models (converted of course) could be good stand-ins for the chaos cultist models, being that they are not mono-pose (to my knowledge) and have a similar size and statline. I also just like te idea of traitor guard using marines as rarer shock troopers, which sadly also makes a good fluff excuse behind the current state of the chaos codex. So what do you guys think? Could I get away with it?

Yeah, easily. Hell, one of my local GWs even recommended I use the Empire Militia box from fantasy for CSM cultists.

Consider Chaos marauders/warriors and beastmen, too.

Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

Marauders could be fun (fits the fluff for my warband too, they like to recruit from medieval worlds by offering technogy) not a fan of beast men though, they just seem a little silly to me.

Agreed with the above, just make sure you have a difference between auto gun and the auto pistol/ccw guys. It makes great fluff sense before and ive seen it done and painted to great effect.

They have good arms and weapons, though. Ticks both the "medieval" and "chaos-y" boxes. Plus there's some good banner poles and pelts, etc on the sprues. Agree about the goat legs and heads being potentially silly though, particularly if you're still going for a military look/feel.

I use mine as renegade guard, but they would work as cultists too. Mixing cadian and beastman parts works well. There are more examples in my galllery, I just happened to have this one on my phone.

So I've actually bought myself a box of guardsmen, and wouldn't you have it, there is no option for a heavy Stubber type weapon, anyone have an idea about how to convert one on? Would be nice to have rather than just a flamer. I'm not looking specifically for a Stubber, just any kind of rapid fire weapon would get the point across, any ideas?

There are parts for a grenade launcher in the cadian box - if you made a new barrel that's a bit longer/thinner I'm sure that would get the 'big drum-fed machine gun' point across.

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

That's a pretty good idea, I'm going to try that, thanks!

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
