Have you looked at the quad mortars? They're pretty nasty. One time i ran 10 of em (5 units of 2 to target more things) and tabled the guy by turn 2. They throw out a ridiculous amount of dakka for their cost, ignore cover because of the barage rule (to tale out anyone that relies on their jink saves), and since you're running the ordnance tyrant, they're troop choices so you still have all yiur heavy guns. Just drop all the high strength guns first to crack transports and finish it all off with some thudd guns, then the tau can swoop in and finish off what little is left.
With 1 melta per unit, i don't think they'll put in the work yiy want them too, like unless your opponent drops some drop pods next to your artillery, you're not going to get very far. Instead, I'd sugfesr giving the whole units krak missiles, I'm pretty sure they're the same cost for the whole.unit as the one melta gun, and you can get more "shots" with them if you swarm a vehicle and it means you can have your guys run and get to objectives faster.

Also, if you equip your infanty units with shot guns, yiu can shoot and assault and tarpit whatever gets in your wsy for a bit and keep whatever you're locked in with stationary so you can drop some blasts on them (also because of ordnance tyrant) in close combat
