When I finally get around to building me a Chimerax from a Chimera kit, this is the route I want to take. Problem is, while I've identified the turret ring, turret, and missile pod as being from a Bradley IFV kit, the "autocannons" have me stumped. They look like sanded down lascannons, but I'm not sure.

Can anybody help? Much thanks in advance.

Here is the pic from the 40k Wiki:

I'm not sure where the Chimerax from your link originates from, but I know you can find tutorials for the Chimerax in Citadel Journal 11 (which shouldn't be hard to find online), and in Inquisitor Magazine 16 (which is a bit tougher, but "timd," the original author has posted about his Chimera variants here on Dakka before, see: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/480844.page

Oh, just quickly looking, it seems GW showed off a later Chimerax in the May White Dwarf 185, not sure if US or UK edition. Hope that helps!

Looks like the old metal 2nd edition guard autocannons.

The ones that came on the wheeled carriage.

Bang on, I reckon.

It helps that I have that journal and recalled him using metal guard autocannnons (because there weren't plastic ones yet) and it was an epic conversion for 40k.

As stated it is the metal autocannons.
Having made that conversion myself, I wonder if the using the plastic modern ones wouldn't be easier. If I remember correctly there was some modification to the gun mount and glacuis, that with the new cannons may be a better fit.

Thanks for the replies and help guys. I knew I could count on the Dakka crew.

Since those autocannons are OOP, I've started looking at these for a possible conversion:

Use the ones from the Aegis Defence Line quad cannon?

I thought about that. But they look to be a little big for what I'm looking for.

The metal autocannons weren't particularly tiny, either.

Whether you use resin FW pieces or plastic GW autocannon bits, you'll have a significantly easier time of modifying them to something suitable.

I remember the article in WD that featured that chimerax conversion!

Yeah, those autocannons used were from the old metal weapon team wheeled carriage.

Pretty sure the article was of some GW store manager's IG army, had some other really good vehicle conversions and a sweet Nork Deddog too!

They're smaller than the ones from the plastic IG heavy weapons squad kit.

The Chimerax in question is from Fred Reed's IG army. You can find the full army shot (and higher res pics of the model in question) in White Dwarf 203 and 214. They're both easy enough to find it with bit of Googling.

Then I'll add them to the list of candidates. Thanks.

As for the articles mention, I'll try to dig them up. They sound awesome.
