Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
Just a thought. Lone Wolves are Space Wolves who have lost all of their squadmates and who has decided to avenge them. One thing that would be pretty fluffy would be that the last surviving member of a Wolf Guard/Grey hunter/Blood Claw squad becomes a Lone Wolf. They keep their wargear, but they receive the profile of a Lone Wolf. Does it sound good?

Doesn't make much sense. Everyone dies and you automatically get better at fighting? Maybe a middle ground where you get some things such as Feel No Pain but not everything.
It's a good idea for a campaign of some kind though.

Personally I wouldn't be too bothered as long as you bumped up the points by 5 or 10, I don't really think one lone space wolf left from a squad comes up much now a days.
Alternatively, If people are apposed to such a buff on one model maybe have a table you roll on:
1-2 No reward
3-4 Feel no pain
5-6 Become Lone wolf
As I said, I doubt this will come up very often so I don't think this roll should break the flow of the game too much.

Seems like the sort of thing that might work for a formation or a themed mission, and it would probably be a fun thing to work into a campaign system. As a general rule, however, I don't much care for it. It's just a bit messy, and it feels arbitrary. I know lone wolves exist as a thing in their own right, but why would there not be a Salamanders equivalent? Why not let aspect warriors sacrifice themselves mid-battle to put on an exarch helmet and thus bring slain exarchs back to life?

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Nurgle Chosen Marine on a Palanquin

I don't think this has a place on the tabletop. Remember that in lore, on the table, models removed as casualties are not always dead. In lore, they are just unable to fight. Especially in the case of marines, they generally live to see another day. Heck, the marine who failed his armor save might have just had a servo malfunction and his armor locked up. He is out of the fight, pluck that mini from the table.

Remember how pretty much nobody was a fan of the fact Exarchs get two wounds on top of the stat bonuses?

Slightly off-topic, I personally like the idea of all squad sergeant-types having 2 wounds base anyway.
The Lone Wolf item sounds more like a "campaign" rule rather than anything else, something you could houserule for Heralds of Ruin maybe?
