I just learned about this and it looks fun. I have one quesiton thou. Are there any dedicated miniatures to buy for this game, or I can use whatever minuatires I like? Like, for example DnD miniatures? If DnD is not a good option, can you advise where to look for "random" minis.

Whatever minis you like.

As such, it's hard to recommend a specific place to look for them. I use a lot of Reaper Bones, personally.

Reaper Bones, clearance Confrontation models from Miniature Market, good old Reaper metal models, anything that you really like works great. Especially as Song of Blades and Heroes does not specifically need "racially pure" warbands like many games, a varied collection of your favorite minis ends up looking like a typical RPG adventuring group, which is great fun.

I am currently building a Skaven warband out of GW plastics.

I'd make sure to get the Advanced ruleset, though. It has a bunch of great additional material, especially expanded magic and skills and is 10 bucks right now on Wargame Vault.

They have some official Dwarf and fungus-men miniatures but they are totally optional.

I use my old grenadier barbarians for my force, and citadel or bones for my opponent, unless they have their own.

I believe Quar is based off that system, but zombiesmith has produced a line of figures to go along. Quite a fun little skirmish game.

I think there's only Mutants and Death Ray Guns, and Flying Lead has the capability to do Sci-Fi, I think.

Looks like Wargame Vault also has one I have not seen before called "Swatters" which seems to use Song of Blades mechanics to do a 40k-sized miniatures game, where squads move around on group-bases, almost like Warhammer or Kings of War.

My Favorite game! I can't recommend it enough. It's a cinch to learn and a ton of fun.

The only thing I would caution is not to play it with power gamers unless they can truely set asside WAAC tendencies. Because each player has the option to build their own force from scratch (plenty of pre-made profiles provided too though) it's easy to "break" the unit creation mechanic. Using the provided profiles at first is a pretty good way to get a feel for how the game operates best.

That said, if you've got some players who are interested in the "spirit" of the game and want to have a fun scenario-driven game then it's a very good choice. It's also excellent for campaigns though it tops out after about 12-14 games. Here's one of our campaigns. http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/p/dark-days-have-come-to-lands-of-qaarra.html

As other have said, it's any minis you like. SBH is the best reason I can think of to buy the minis you like the look of.
There is a darn near comprehensive list of non-GW minis companies here:

However, I'm a bit obsessed with affordable minis lines, so if you're looking for cheap minis of a given subject, just let me know.

I've only played the advanced version recently, but I think it is quite good. As far as I know the supplements for the original are compatible with it.

There are two Quar Rulesets.
-"Song of our Ancestors" is based on "Flying Lead" which is a Song of Blades variant.
-The"This Quar's War" ruleset has no connection to Song of Blades.

The supplements "Of spats and pedrails" and "Tales of the Breach" contain information for both games.

MDRG can be used for sci-fi, but it's really more of a Gamma World game. Swatters is a very fast-play game aimed at Starship Troopers style games. Right now the author is working on a Sci-Fi system called Harder than Steel.

It's not based on Song of Blades, but if you're looking for something generic, flexible and very easy to play, I highly recommend "WarEngine". It's the game engine that was used in "Shockforce". A slightly updated 2.1 version is available for free by joining their yahoo group.

The game size is similar to 2nd edition 40k, though it doesn't handle anything bigger than light vehicles.

Rogue Planet is another indie game that has a very Song of Blades and Heroes feel to it, although the mechanics are quite different. But like SoBH it's only a couple of stats per figure, and very low figure count. Eventually I plan to use it to play with my Sedition Wars figures, as I could make two sides that play very differently-as Marines versus Zombies should.

Some of the mechanics neewd real effort to wrap the mind about, thou (like no measuring-ever).

A true sci-fi SoBH (skirmish) ruleset would be so welcome!

It's taken over my group and we've even added new players. We play with whatever we have, just agreed base size has to be reflected in the models rules. (Big, Large, Huge, etc)

One of my favorite warbands is the Hordes Trollkin starter box. In the group we have folk that use Warhammer models, Reaper, 40k, Warmahordes...

It's been such a hit that multiple people have actually bought the book (pdf) instead of pirating it or constantly stealing mine.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

The base size thing is actually pretty self regulating. Having a bigger base does get you a bit more movement, but the bigger the base, the more enemies can pile in on you. I guess someone could game the issue by putting "big" (gives a combat bonus) figures on small bases (to minimize the number of opponents), but we've never had that problem yet.

Glad to hear that folks are coming around to buying the PDF. The Ganesha games "company" is just one guy -Andrea Sigliofi- who makes his living writing these games and he's not exactly rolling in dough. I encourage all groups to tell the freeloaders to pony up the $10 and support him. You could buy the core rules and all 4 main supplements and still have spent less than one Warhammer codex!
