Path to Glory Scenario: Rewards of Chaos

The rewards of Chaos Scenario has four altars in the four corners. Victory requires holding three altars. Or wiping out the enemy army. The altars can be utilized by a wizard, general or priest within 3" (wizards die if they try to use the Khorne altar). However, utilizing your opposite's altar will cost you a favor point (Khorne using Slannesh, Nurgle using Tzeentch, etc.).

Khorne Warband
Mighty Lord of Khorne (general, causes fear -1 leadership to enemy units in 3")
Skull Grinder
Slaughter Priest
Exalted Death Dealer
Bloodsecrator
1 Khorgorath
10 Blood Warriors
20 Blood Reavers

vs.

Nurgle Warband
Lord of Plagues with acidic blood
5 Blight Kings
3 Bullgors
1 Cygor
5 Mounted Marauders with Javelins
1 Chaos Sorceror Lord

The Nurgle player won the dice roll and selected the side with the Nurgle and Khorne altars. The Khorne player setup on the side with the Tzeentch and Slannesh altars.

The Nurgle player setup with his chaos sorceror on his left near the Nurgle altar (but still about 12" from the Nurgle atlar).

The Khorne player setup with the Bloodsecrator in cover on his left near the Tzeentch altar and the Slaughter Priest on his right near the Slannesh altar. (In hindsight, this was a strategic mistake on my part, I should have placed the Bloodsecrator in the center of my army, or on the right side and the Slaughter Priest on the left).

The Nurgle player finished setup first and chose to move first. The Nurgle army moved forward, except for the Chaos Sorceror that moved towards the Nurgle Altar.

On the Khorne turn, the Slaught Priest failed in his prayer to Khorne and suffered three mortal wounds. The Blood Secrator put his standard down and opened the Portal of Skulls (another strategic mistake on my part, I should have moved the bloodsecrator closer to the middle of the board).

On turn 2, the Khorne army moved first. The Slaughter Priest successfully drew the minotaurs forward. The entire Khorne army charged towards the Minotaurs. The blood reavers and the skull grinder failed on the their charges, but the rest of the army charged in and wiped out the Bullgors. During this combat, most of the Khorne forces are out of range of the Bloodsecrator -- only the Khorgorath and the BLood Reavers are within 18" of the Blood Secrator.

On the Nurgle turn 2, the Cygor charged into the Blood warriors, killing several. The marauders were throwing their javelins in.

On the Nurgle turn 3, the Blight Kings and Lord of Plagues joined the combat.

On the Khorne turn 3, the remaining Khorne forces charged into combat.

The battle wears on for three or so more turns. The forces of Khorne slew the Minotaurs, the Cygor, and a few of the Blight Kings. However, the terrible plague winds wiped out the forces of Khorne.

The Chaos Sorceror used his power of sorcery and his orcular visions to protect the blight kings and made them very difficult to slay.

In hindsight, had the Bloodsecrator been closer to the battle at setup or had I moved the blood secrator during turn 1, there might have been a different outcome in this battle. Had the +1 attacks bonus and immunity to battle shock been within range of the Blood Warriors, they would have inflicted 50% more damage on the enemy. Similarly, the Heroes of Khorne would have been tougher in combat if they could have counted on the Blood Secrators bonus. As it was, only the Khorgorath and Blood Reavers received the bonus.

After the battle, each warband received additional chaos rewards. The forces of Nurgle received some chaos gifts and mutations on the Cygor. The Khorne warband received a unit of Chaos Knights.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Chaos altars really didn't play a role. While we both setup with the idea of going after the altars, our forces instead charged towards the enemy and neither side ever took advantage of the altars.
