Hi All,

I know Volkite's are the way to go, but was curious if any of you play a heavy chainblade squad as a solid assault unit?

Just wondering,

I've had it done against me, the unit hit pretty hard as I was already in combat with his tactical squad, rolled over my Rampagers quite easily.

Volkites are also popular.

I think people really lean towards the Volkites because aside from their awesome shooting they don't preclude you from also assaulting. From what I remember (book at home) they get bolter+ccw+bolt pistol standard and you just pay to upgrade the bolter to the Volkite. The best CC gear you can take in that squad is a chainglaive on the Headman, and it's 2H anyways, so you're not losing anything buy strapping a Volkite charger on him as well.

You can totally pepper in some heavy chainswords, but they're not fantastic compared to regular free ones and the NL dirty fighting special ability (which I head is also going to be +1 to hit as well in the new red book).

I've been doing well with 2 squads of 10 volkite in legion drop pods and an unupgraded squad in a dreadclaw.

Volkite all the way and in a pod. With the legion rules of outnumbering people in CC....volkite will usually wear them down so you trigger that rule
