So this is a list I came up with for a local competitive tournament. I was also wondering if running more of a mech list would be a better idea. We are playing ITC missions for this to.

Any comments?

What is your plan for your psykers?

Blobs are ok. but you are going to be very limited in your movement if you want to fire the heavy weapons, and try to claim objectives with them. Sheer size is going to cause you to be moving through difficult terrain often. I suggest going with one platoon and a conscript squad/priest for tarpitting tough targets. Then use the points to get another mech vet squad to help with objectives.

The idea with the psykers are to twin link the blobs or just roll on divination in general. But each one is to be attached to one of the blobs.

As for both with the auto cannons and the lascannons I will congo line them up the board keeping the weapons teams still until I have a chance to give them the order to fire and run. But in general they are meant to be the slow anchors imfor my deployment zones. They will make sure they are held down while all the tanks push forwards.

Do you think a conscript blob/another vets unit(if points fit) would be better than the auto cannons/melta bomb blob? I'm just trying to also focus on more long range anti tank.

As I've heard there's a good possibility of a tau dar army. Including possibly 2 wraith knights with scat bikes and a riptide formation.

I also thought about the idea of getting the cullexus assassin in the army if that's possible to help against psykers.

A good possibility to be facing taudar?

Yes, facing lol. I've played one before but that was before wraith Knights became more broken and prior to riptides getting formations lol.

For Riptides I would suggest an ABG Vanquisher with beast hunter shells. They will also be semi effective vs Wraithknights doing D3 wounds. However there is a thread over in tactocs right now on how to deal with WKs as IG, and the best consensus as of now is to tarpit them with fearless conscripts, dont try to kill them just tie them up for cheap. I would suggest an inquisitor with the liber herus to try and scout into a better position to try and trap the WK.

Well if I drop the auto cannon platoon and add in a conscript blob with priest and use the same inquisitor as above and then add in a melta vets unit I'm then over by 18 points. I would prefer to kept the lascannon blob with 4 squads but I'm not sure where to take the points from.

Alright so to make it possible I drop the auto cannon platoon, rad grenades from the inquisitor, and relic playing on the tank commander and added in another melta vets unit, 30 conscripts.

I was under the impression that if your going to take an inquisitor, you might as well always take Coteaz? 100pts and you get mastery lvl 2, an ap2 weapon and all the sparkly special rules like 'expecting you', seems like a bargain

I've actually never used him but that does sound amazing and I will have to look into using him. How many points does he go for? I might have to pick him up quickly.

He is 100pts, and is almost always worth it.

2+ Sv no invul though :( He and his unit get free shots if something comes in from reserves within 12", he allows you to reroll to seize, and forces your opponent to reroll a succesful seize. ML2, Deamonhammer. decent ranged weapon.....He is a great package for the price.

Well I jumped around to the local stores and none had coteaz so I'm out of luck there. Plus I'm not sure how I would lose the points to get him in the list.

Should I consider trying to get the culexus assassin in my army?

I dont think the culexus is necessary. It helps against a heavy psyker list, but its just average if not.

Gotcha, well I think the above list is what I will be set with then unless any other suggestions are made.

If I ever do get coteaz I will surely make sure to always include him in the blobs!

My only question is should I try to get the ccs in a chimera?

I always prefer my CCS in a Chimera, its extra firepower, extra protection, and gets that LC higher up to shoot over things. Plus mobility.

But since they are not going to be your Warlord, they are not armed to the teeth, and you have such a large blob to help protect them, I would say its not mandatory.

Well I ended up going 1-2 at the tournament.

1st game was against an eldar army with some bikes, 2 wraith Knights and then the riptide wing attached. The riptide wing did its double shoot ability and ended up blowing my lascannon blob off the table turn 1 before they even did anything so that game was a busy from the get go, I ended up getting tabled.

2nd game was against farsight enclave. Couple battle suits with a commander, another riptide wing, and a storm surge, also a drone formation. I ended up winning as my conscripts got into an assault with a riptide and held an objective majority of the game. My mechanized element ended up holding the storm surge off as it failed pretty badly with its shooting.

My third game was against eldar with some dark eldar supplement attached. The eldar had a wraith knight and 4 or 5 bike squads and had some forge world grav tanks. They shot s8 ap2 shots and had av11, they were also in a squad of 3. There was also so super heavy tank I think called a lynx??? I ended up send my chimeras and conscripts up fast which ended up getting them all killed pretty miserably and I should have kept them back and played defensively but basically the remaining of my army got tabled as I was pinned down in my deployment zone.

I can easily say guard has an extremely rough time in tournaments. The amount of effective fire power other armies can put out just cripples guard. Not to mention they are all very mobile. Changes I'm looking into doing is swapping the hydras for a vulture with punisher guns. But I'm not sure what I could really do to change this army around to make it a bit better. It seems like a lot of the suggestions I've gotten is to add a bunch of units like psykers to buff up a power axe blob. The lascannons are starting to seem very poor.

I think part of your problem is that you want to do foot and mech but guard cant really do that outside of apoc, you have to do one or the other.

So what would your suggestion be? What seems like the better option?

I prefer mech myself, and the emperor's blade formation i feel is a good starting point. It usually forms the core of my lists

Those were some really bad matchups. Tau/Eldar every game. what fun, :(

A pask punisher may have helped more against things like the wraith knights

I will have to give mechanized a shot again.

As for the matchups they were really bad. But it was a lot of cheesy lists but I figured as it was a pretty competitive tournament.

As for pask punisher I disagree. The wraith Knights can move fast and their destroyer weapons would have blasted pask to pieces.

Give pask Camo netting and put him behind an aegis or hide him under a voidshield. 20 rending shots will make the wraith knight sweat though which is something to consider, especially if pask is your warlord and gets preffered enemy
