Hey guys,

i wonder whether some of you already got the betrayal at calth box for its mere minis-per-buck ratio.
I am considering it and am planning to paint the minis as Space Wolfes.

There are 30 tactical marines in the box, with some heavy weapons, afaik.

Does anybody know, whether I can build Long Fangs from the box?

FYI: Long Fangs can be equiped withWeapons from the Heavy Weapon List.
My only unit with *booom*

Your advice would be appreciated :-)

The BaC box has three heavy bolter and three missile launchers. You could make them, but they won't be fully equipped. A Space Marine Battle Demi-Company boxed set can accomplish this much better, as it comes with five missile launchers.

If you have the heavy weapons then sure you can equip the BaC tacticals with 40k heavy weapons quite easily. The heavy weapons that come in BaC are Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters so if you want those weapons then your set.

That box is sold out unfortunately. It also would have had quite a pricetag

Urgh.. Crap. I was thinking about Melta Cannon and Plasma Cannon.

Could you recommend weapons for a heavy weapon squad? I am pretty new to the game and don't actually know what weapons work best in the end...

Seriously? I know the US site is no indication, but it is still available there. Is eBay an option?

Well, to be honest: My hobbydollars are quite dried out for the next few month :(
Therefore even on eBay that box would be a little too much.

A point to cnsider is, that we use to play 750 Point games (4 persons 2 vs 2).

I already do have

1 Wolf Lord / WG Battle Leader
5 WG Terminators
10 Grey Hunters
3 Thunderwolf Cav.
1 Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought w/ Assault Rifle and CC-Bolterarm

Also I (will) owe the "Betrayal at Calth" set (because: That Boardgame is still cool though) which gives me another

1 Captain
1 Independant Char/ Psycher/ you name it
5 Terminators
1 Contemptor
30 Taktical Marines (which may become
--- 5 Sky Claws
--- 5 Long Fangs
--- 5 Wolf Guard
--- x Grey Hunters

So, at this point in my Wargaming life, all I really "need" to have a lot of choices in variety and potentially a few decent lists (IMHO) would be:

1 add. unit Thunderwolfe Cav
1 Unit w/ Longfang-weapons
1 Set of Jump Packs.

For Long Fangs it really depends on the other units in your army and what holes you need filled.
Lascannons are probably the best use of the unit as a long range backfield vehicle destroyer with split fire is a good thing.
Missile Launchers are decent but honestly I feel like they aren't as good as lascannons for killing MCs and vehicles but their frag missiles are so lackluster that its not worth using them. I play Orks primarily and even my T4, 6+ armor boyz laugh at frag missiles.
Plasma Cannon get a lot of hate but also can be loved as it either kills your own guys and seems to scatter off all the time or it destroys heavy infantry, MCs, horde infantry, and even light vehicles.
Multi Melta is honestly not very good when you don't have relentless on foot. Maybe if you take a tiny long fang unit in a rhino shooting out of the top hatch.
Heavy Bolters aren't all that great, especially for Long Fangs as they lack the tactical doctrine or bolter drill tactics that standard Space Marines can have.

Personally I like a unit of Lascannons and a unit of Plasma Cannons for my Long Fangs. If I had something like a Stormwolf then the Lascannons would be redundant.

You could probably find somebody to trade for Plasma Cannons as they tend to not be as popular. Lascannons are more popular so it might be harder to find someone willing to part with them.

Think that'll be enough for the next few games :-)

Cheers everybody for your kind advices.

Leave the fretting over matching outfits to prissies like the Blood Angels... Or perhaps the Ultramarines 2nd Company with Cato Sicarius and all.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.
