(best I could do with an iphone. not too good at pics like this and I do not own a lightbox/too lazy to create one atm)

So first off that flame base is going away. It was just a placeholder. If anyone knows of a good way to to have a base similar to the sigmarine prime thing or the nagash swirling power/ghost stuff that would work for this herald that would be amazing. I'm not much of a sculpter but I was considering just making tendrils wrap around/holding it up but I know my skills wouldn't match up and it would standout/take away from the model.I had also considered making some foamcore ruins/scenic base of some kind using the necron monolyth swirly door as a rainbow portal on the ground where daemons are coming out but inspiration is needed atm. There was a misshap with the flameing orb hand that involves somehow getting stuck to my shirt and then dropping to the ground where my lab quickly snaps it up thinking its food and then spitting it out. gota get a new one..... I'll also add that this model made me hate and love NMM as it's my first time really doing a large amount of it on a model. It takes FOREVER to paint what would take me 3 seconds to do with true metallic and some wash so I believe the troops will not be getting the same treatment in favor of actually completing an army but I digress....

I'd decided to go with the small dagger as I felt the staff felt more like a "is riding a chariot" thing in the way it pointed and its length. It also distracted/blocked detail and IMO ruined the balance of the model overall. I was also wondering if anyone felt I should paint the third book and place it in the middle or not. I'm conflicted on this one

I will soon be starting up the core of the army, horrors, flamers, screamers etc. I actually dropped an eldar wraithguard army that I had already put so much time into simply because I loved the tzeentch colors too much. I'll post more as I go but I'm a slow painter and I gota sell off my eldar before I go around buying new daemons

edit - updated the photos of the suggested change to the dagger. its def better tyvm

The paintjob is really really awesome! For the base you can do something similar to the gaunt summoner, you can sculpt a big maw on the base and in the center a big tongue that holds the disc

I have the gaunt summoner purely for what I thought would be the base/tendril but it suffers from the same problem I have with the flame, It's too skinny. If there was 4 tendrils that kinda matched the size of the disc and added some volume I would be down.

I think that might be my qualm. The lack of volume when the disc is such a large piece

Also ty your maw idea has me currently messing around with the disc to see what i can maybe make (my sculptings limited to basic stuff like the front foot on that herald had to be cut and then filled in between. Anything from scratch and I struggle

Looks absolutely gorgeous, especially the NMM. NMM might be time consuming but when it looks as good as this does I'd say it's well worth it.

As for the base, one idea could be to make it seem like he's flying through the warp with some kind of "lightning storm" to hold the disc up?

Looks great. My only critique would be that the sword looks too flat and unfinished. Maybe a different color on the guard/hilt?

yeh i was thinking the sword was something. its sculpted oddly so it threw me off. be hard to change it now with all the stuff in the way. the blade though goes from kantor blue to kinda an ice blue just the pics are obviously poorly done

you know what man youre right. the hilt and guard have to be gold. time to snap the hand off and paint it lol. it was bothering me too

The model is absolutely beautiful. Personally I think the sword looks fine as is but that's just my opinion. How about https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Nighthaunt-Spirit-Hosts for the base or would it be too tall?

The part about your lab snapping it up thinking it's food... I laughed because I can relate. If you are what you eat, then my dog ought to be half plastic for as many times as he chomped down a plastic piece that I dropped on the floor.

hes chewed many models. this was the first that was painted and thank god it was an easily replaceable part. id lose my @!#@$ if it was the disc the herald is standing on.

also repainted the sword hilt and guard as suggested and its TONS better. was a very frustrating nmm portion as the handle was VERY tiny but had 2 sides... phones dead atm so gota wait a bit to retake photos

Looks really really good. I am holding off painting mine because I know that I wont be able to give the model the paint job like this. Super jealous

Does the base have to be GW?

that is pretty damn close. is it resin where I can heat up say hot water? I don't own a heat gun or something of that sort

It's "Bonesium" (or metal), so you can just bend it by hand or use hot water.

Google for a top down view. Reaper minis "Desert Thing"
