I've decided to be a very brave soul and subject my recently-painted Tau Stormsurge to the scrutiny and criticism of my peers here on DakkaDakka. Please be gentle if you don't like it, and remember I'm not that good of a painter, and my photography skills are VERY basic (and I'm working with a pretty cheap camera), but I did the best I could! Here are the pics:

I'm actually pretty proud of it myself. It was my February 2016 entry in Paradigm's monthly painting challenge. It's the first time I've ever tried painting something this big, and I did it in pieces rather than trying to paint the whole thing already assembled (what a mess that would have been!). It's kind of hard to see the edge highlights in these photos, but they are there. I deliberately did not do much if any weathering, for two reasons: I would probably have ruined a decent paint job if I had tried it, and I figure the Tau have pretty good maintenance techs in the Earth Caste, probably with nanomachines or something that can scrub the machine clean and patch up bullet holes and other battle damage. In the future I may go back and add some weathering, but not for a while and not until I'm sure I can pull it off. Anyway, thanks for looking, and feel free to vote for the images in the gallery!

Thanks guys! The blue scheme has worked even better than I hoped. There's a bit of history behind the color choice. I actually chose to do it about a year and a half ago (back when I didn't have much Tau stuff), and the combo of Caledor Sky and Yriel Yellow just came to mind one day while I was in my FLGS looking at the paint rack. I tried it out on a few Fire Warriors and it worked well, but then I shelved the Tau in favor of my Dark Angels. I only started acquiring more Tau stuff last fall when I got a box of Kroot on eBay. Then I heard about the upcoming new releases, but alas I didn't have enough extra money. Until I looked through my Magic card collection and realized that I was sitting on a gold mine (especially since I almost never play Magic anymore). I sold a bunch of cards, many of them quite valuable, and used the money to buy a bunch of Tau stuff, including the Stormsurge seen above. I started painting Tau in earnest as well, giving me a chance to refine my chosen blue paint scheme (this is where I decided to add some gray to break it up a little). I did my Commander and then a Breacher team in the color scheme (after testing it on a Crisis suit), and it seemed to look good. Then I decided to go for broke and do the Stormsurge, and you can all see the results above!

TL;DR: It is gratifying to see that I am not the only one who likes my color scheme. I've never seen another Tau army with those colors to date, so I feel like I am adding something to the community that might actually inspire others, and that is a very encouraging thought. Thanks again for looking!
