I've got two sentinels still waiting to be built, because I don't know how to build them. I've already got two Scout Sentinels, each with a Heavy Flamer and Hunter Killer Missile.

I'm inclined to build the new ones the same way, and run two scout sentinel units (2 sentinels each).

The local group I'm going to start playing with has these armies:
Horde Orks
Dark Angels
Generic Space Marines
Battlesuit Tau

They are all flyer heavy, each player brings at least 3 to a game, if that helps.

Here are my reasons for building them as Scount Sentinels with Heavy Flamer and Hunter Killer Missiles:
1. Scout: Outflank: This lets me come in from reserves right in the opponent's backfield. Useful because my guard die if they try and move across the board.
2. Heavy Flamer: My guard can't shoot for gak, and you don't have to roll to hit with this, plus Ignores Cover.
3. HK Missile: On the off-chance an opportunity presents itself, it gives me a chance to hit the rear armor of some vehicle, or try and Instant Death a tough character. Mainly, I just like the missiles on the models.

I have a mix of tanks and infantry, and we play at 1850.

I appreciate any suggestions or anecdotes you have about Sentinels.

Thanks!

I like the scouts with heavy flamers. they are decent one-use unit poppers, though don't discount armored sentinels, since they too have their uses.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I second this, while fragile, an armored sentinel with a plasma cannon can add some punch for a very small price, while also avoiding problems with BS 3. Just park it in cover and hope you dont roll 1s!

If you already have scout sentinels, I'd recommend trying armored sentinels. You're going to want to try to mitigate the bs3 so I'd recommend either plasma cannons. Autocannons are good bet too but you can lots of those on heavy weapon squads.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

If you are already using Scout Sentinels with Heavy Flamers, maybe try the extra 2 with Autocannons. That way you can Outflank into Rear Armour arcs, where 4 S7 shots come in pretty handy.

I mostly play my sentinels with The Emperor's Talon Recon Company. As they get Outflank I can end up with Armoured sentinels with outflank and they are really fun to play. Most oftenI use 6 of them with Multi laser, but sometimes go wild and take 3 multilasers, 3 plasma canons, making sure to really think which unit I will use them against as the formation also gives preferred enemy against one ennemy unit.

When using only three I use 3 armoured with multi lasers put them in front, cheap and the 12 armour front helps remove threat from my veterans' chimeras and taurox when I use some.

missile launchers seem like a winner here. out of curiosity, do sentinel missile launchers have access to flakk missiles?
