Afternoon fellas,

I am horrific at basing. I've painting my tournament army and its a pretty nice contrast of colors. The question is, what should I do the bases to really accent the figures? Color theory seems applicable as the firehawks are red and yellow. Iron hands are black/ silver and I have no idea what the base should be. All of the Iron Hands are mounted on custom resin bases. The hawks are bare. Currently ive framed and grey'd the bases to give use a good starting point to work from. I really could use help on this on my fellow dakkanauts, i want the army to pop.

1) What colors should I do the bases for the Firehawks based on their colors Yellow and red)?
2) What colors should I do the Bases for the Iron hands based on their colors (Black and silver)?

For the Firehawks, the red is quite muted. I'd go for a muted purple to contrast with the yellow and compliment the red. An icy blue would also be a good contrast.

For black and silver, anything will work. Bright colours like pinks, reds and yellows would pop the most, but any bright colour would contrast. Lighter colours like creams and yellows could also work well. Or you could go with something dark (like a muted purple) to stick with the dark theme.

Agreed, the red needs to silvers to pop. plus a drybrush coat of red something or other. This is just mephiston and nuln sadly, but I need to figure out how to work it in. Im not sure how to do a muted purple or blue on such plain bases. What flocking would you suggest?

I think you could work it into the highlights, accented edges and such. You could even mix it into your other highlights (perhaps using glaze) to give the miniatures a sort of mood lighting.
