I've done some work with the warpflame host.
The trick is to take some exalted flamers in addition to the squads of horrors. I've been running with 5 squads of horrors and 4 exalted flamers. That has worked really well for me in my test games.
The exalted flamers really give some 'Get off my lawn' incentive to things that want to get close. STR 10, AP2, D3, BS4 shots are pretty scary.
