I can't stand Finecrap, I mean Failcast, I mean Finecast. I don't mind the look of the Warp Spider models, but would be willing to deviate a bit.

My idea is to have the base model be Eldar Gaurdians with DE shredders. But what could I use as the packs? I have no access to molding techniques, so recasting isn't an option.
Are there any bits that could be eBay'ed that would look good on a Guardian? Would a Space marine power pack look too goofy? What about putting WraithGuard thigh armour over the powerpack?

Alternate option: Necron Pretorian back torsos. Rounded shape and ease of finding on eBay really make this option appealing to me. But would it look good?

For the cost of all the that, wouldn't it be easier and the same cost to ebay for older metal ones?

Metal may be slightly better than finecast, but it's still no where near as good as plastic.

2 boxes of 4 plastic Guardians (already have 2 spare bodies), 10 DE shredders and 10 Pretorian jump packs will still be cheaper that 10 metal OOP Warp Spiders.

The backpack kinda look tyranidy to me you could look for some big round carpaces or perhaps sculpt them yourself. But like mentioned just buying the metal ones will be cheaper, and they look great.

My old conversion for Warp Spiders doesn't need fine sat, it uses the shadow spectres pack as torso, scourge heads and dark eldar legs with shredders.

Thanks for the replies and I love those conversions. Sadly I don't have access to FW stuff.

I just did a quick eBay search. 5 metal Spiders are gonna be about $40-60. However 5 Guardians, 5 Shredders and 5 DeathMark back torsos will be around $20-30 total. This is including shipping. I think I have a winner.

The DeathMark torso will probably be better anyway since it is smaller and more Eldar-size appropriate. I can just attach that to the Gaurdian back.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have ordered the DeathMark torso backs and will post pics of the "proof of concept" models.

I have another question. I love dual use models using magnets. Here are my Swooping Hawk/Scourges:

The back 2 models are painted like Swooping Hawks and are my Exarchs, the rest are in my armies paint scheme. All of my Aspects are like this. The Warp Spider would be the same. As I doubt I would use both Hawks & Spiders in the same list, could I remove the wings from those Hawks and, using magnets, place the Warp Jump generator onto them?

That way I could use the Wings and Hawks Exarchs to be Swooping Hawks, or the WJG and Spider Exarchs to be Spiders.

So heres the question: Since the Hawk models are already assembled, how would it be best to remove the wings with the least damage to the model? I was thinking of getting some more back torsos to attach the wings to with a magnet (so I don't have a bunch of individual wings)
