I recently painted up a miniature for a painting competition, and while I didn't place in the category I was entering, I still learned a heck of a lot. One of my biggest lessons is to start earlier! I wanted to do some more things with her, like painting her gems, a cool leopard print fur cape, some tattoos, etc. But, alas, I was not able to get to it. Regardless, please check her out!
If you want to check out a video about the things I learned along the way, watch this video:

I couldn't get much out of the vid. I feel I'm really too new at this to "get" what were trying to do with skin. Still enjoyed watching, though!
My paint scheme is primarily yellows, so warmer colors. I wanted to differentiate the flesh from the rest of the miniature. For the most part, flesh is also warm colors like pinks (got some red in there so we call it warm) and tans. My idea was to shade the flesh with blues, a cold color. Cold colors contrast warm colors because they're on opposite ends of the color wheel. Often times miniature painters will do everything they can to drive "contrast" up the wall. This in turn helps further define all the small details on our models.
Are there any other beginner videos you want to see, mdlbuildr?

Thanks for the reply and for asking!
I learn more by watching the whole process. I also really enjoy watching people paint miniatures from prime to finish. I learned how to paint primarily by watching the WarhammerTV painting tutorial vids and The Apathetic Fish's YouTube channel. It would be awesome to see you do some painting vids like that!
That being said, I enjoyed all your vids and am always checking to see if you've made any new ones. Awesome stuff and thanks!
Very well done Succubus, especially love the skin, that's a tough part for me. I love that you did something wildly different from typical DE colours, very flashy. I love the ideas you had for her. Do you intend to follow through with the tats and leopard fur cloak still? If so I'd love to see that.

I've been thinking about it. Right now I'm a little mentally exhausted towards painting the succubus. So, if I do paint her more, it'll be later on after I've painted some other minis
She looks nice but I feel like she needs makeup some how. Like some makeup/war paint regardless of what you do with it would help tremendously. The paint job itself is good but that's my only gripe with what you could have done and didn't do.
Even tiger stripes across her bare skin would be really nice here.
