Your Chaos Lord is more defined in his individual components, the best looking part being the back/spine, not considering the cape.
The Hellbrute has a rather uniform appearance due to that heavy reddish do-over covering the majority of the model (same on the front of the Chaos Lord).
Overall, I think you should focus more on seeing minis as made up by different and separate components and maybe have a slower and more patient approach, to try and achieve a cleaner look.
Giving that bloody/dirty/gory wash-over can help binding a mini like that and its parts together but you're overdoing it by a large degree, in my opinion.
I think the appearance of both minis would benefit greatly by some clean and strong dark wash in the crevices/recesses and some highlighting.
