it WAS in the Waaaagh! Ghazgkhull supp but the "update" took it out for some dumb reason.
Lets "update" the orks by giving them an inflexible formation that makes no sense and remove the best formation they had, which wasnt even insane to begin with just good.

Warboss and 10 units of Boyz combined as a single unit. Regular unit of Boyz is anywhere from 10-30 Boyz so a Green Tide unit could have 101 to 301 models 11 of them might be holding a pk and with new codex all of them can take eavy armour upgrade. The price in points for a fully kitted green tide would only fit in apocalypse anyway. Last Ghazzy supplement had the green tide in it and it fits in normal games as 101 models with a few upgrades sprinkled in. The formation bonus was if the warboss was chosen warlord then he can Waaaaagh every turn after the first.
It was fairly competitive because as a single unit it's a lot of wounds the opponent needs to dish out in order to defeat it. In melee it drowns enemy units in dice. Being all one unit every model benefits from special rules that buff units such as painboyz and dls. It's also as fluffy as it gets.
Downside was if it did finally get beat it was worth 10vp for the opponent (maybe 11 can't recall atm). It can be a pain to move but kunnin orks move the rear boyz over to the front. Loses furious charge when it's a disorganized charge which is pretty often. Just as buffs effect all models so do debuts. Enfeeble, Dominate, and Terrify powers in Rule Book come to mind. Lot of eggs in one basket.

My local gaming club thought it was a bad formation because if it fails leadership it runs off the board...but (A) it's in the supplement so 5/6 times it will be rolling on the 4-6 result of Mob Rule with 101 models to get through and (B) you could give it Fearless through the Warboss, as well as FnP, AV12 and WS5 from outside sources.
Heck, I would have a Weirdboy attached to them too for 5+ DtW and possibly +2 Strength or + 1 Attack. Maybe DS around the board terrain permitting LOL (I would never do that, that's just suicide).

Thats easy to fix. Its part of the suppliment, give the warboss Da Big Bosspole which makes the unit fearless. Its pretty hard to snipe out a warboss when he has that many bodies around him.
Or, slap Grotsnik in there since you kinda want fnp anyway. He gives them all sorts of goodies. Or both, for redundancy.

Well, my hard copy of Waaagh! Ghazkull still has it listed, they can't exactly take it away from me at the shop, now can they? Is there some provision wherein my not-updatable paper copy is invalidated? I'm still building towards that formation...

A whole new book came out, your using the outdated version
It would be like insisting on using the 5ed Ork codex just because you have it.

Your club must have misunderstood mob rule, or interpreted 7 & 8 on the table as a fail. Otherwise it's mathematically impossible for it to run, as long as there are 10 models left, at least 1 is a nob. The best part about the tide & mob rule is that you can choose who gets whacked. Just keep one unit of armored boyz to absorb the blows and go on.
I've often thought about the weirdboy's GOI and deepstriking 100 models, just to get a reaction. Never tried it though...

You'll have to ask people you're playing against if they don't mind playing against greentide as it's sloppy with 'legality' now. Some say they've mailed to GW and the response was something like: "We didn't want to include is as core or auxilary but you can still run it like you can run it from the old book like you can do everything else". Means nothing.
Also, i'd not suggest you buying the new book as it's pretty useless. Other formations are all the same as they used to be other than a few minor changes - blitz brigade got s10 rams and krushig crew got rage instead of furious charge. We also got decurion that's not worth running in games below 2.5k. Lost greentide - the only way orks achieved something in competitive tournaments. And that's basically it.
