So when ranking the current SH/GMCs within the game, the Lord of Skulls always seems to come out toward the bottom, and mainly because of its incredibly bloated price tag of 888 points....sure, its fluffy, we get the joke GW, but come on, noway is that thing worth 3 Wraithknights. So since GW loves their fluffy chaos units, I don't expect the points cost to ever get reduced....so how about making the darn thing actually WORTH the 888 points! What could be done to accomplish that goal?

First, since the fluff states its a trapped Bloodthirster, how about we give it Bloodthirster stats? WS 10, BS 10, and 6 attacks!! Also, ditch the Daemonic Possession rule since all it does is gimp it, since as a SH walker, it already ignores everything but explodes (beyond losing the hull point). This makes it an absolute beast in combat, and its shooting is outstanding!

Next is a toss up....either improve the AV and Hull Points, or make it a GMC that still has tank shock/thunderblitz instead of Stomp. Its already a bad trade off losing Stomp for Thunderblitz, so something needs to be done. On one hand, bumping the AV up by 1 per side and increasing the hull points to 12 would make it pretty durable but still very vulnerable to drop melta squads and D weapons, but that's the downside to being a vehicle class unit. On the other hand, we could make it a GMC with T8, 10 Wounds, and a 2+ save, which makes it vulnerable to poison/sniper/rending weapons, but less vulnerable to D and melta. Given that Grav weapons would also eat it alive as a GMC, I'm inclined to lean toward keeping it AV with the higher values, since it also has a 5++ and It Will Not Die.

Finally, we have the ranged weapon load out. Not sure about this one, as I feel an 888 point super heavy should have ranged D, but then, with BS10, the stock weapons are a bit more serviceable then they were. Maybe have the optional weapons and stock weapons balanced against each other, finding a happy medium, and then making them free options? Not sure about this one.

So what are you thoughts on improving the lovable KhorneDozer to be worth the points?

I think a Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne is miles better, and about 100 pts cheaper...

It's a testament to the fact that GW have no care for point costs or balancing at 888pts. Plus, it looks like an angry lawnmower so YMMV.

I actually like the stupidity of the model. The rules are complete garbage though.

Use it as a Kytan for fun and wonder how the hell it is stomping. Maybe it is doing donuts!

I would definitely use one if it could thunderblitz while locked in combat. I mean really, a few gaunts or guardsmen would hardly be a bump to that thing. It's huge. They certainly couldn't stop it from moving.

Other than that, too many damn points getting tied up by fething gaunts.

Yeah, point for point the greater brass scorpion is much better, seeing as the thing stomps like only a 100 tonne scorpion can.

If you want to take the Lord of skulls. You might as well upgrade all the weapons too, the instant death template is good fun, and so is the scorpion.

Just keep it away from combat, it will get bogged down with so few attacks and no stomps.

I think the Lord of Skulls is so bad I wouldn't waste D shots on it until it was the last super heavy on the board. And I'm the kinda guy that brings 27 D shots on Titans/GMC's and 30 D shots on troops.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

It isn't so bad in apocalypse game when he is flancked by 5+ other SH/GMC. Really the only way that he is useful is as a support for your chaos knights/brass scorpions, i.e. he can burn and blast away any unit that might attempt to bog down your aproaching forces. Also he can still wipe the floor with tanks (but that doesn't really mean anything. He is a fun unit to use in any apocalypse game but yeah, people would take him more seriously with a buff.

Buy it, make it a Kytan (the tank can be made into legs just google it).
