My advice, drop the y' vhara and the CAD riptide and make your unit one of the riptide wing 3 strong. They can all then benefit from hail of fire. Give them target locks. You get one turn of six riptides shooting. Get a bunker with an escape hatch for your culexus. Take a drone mander over aunva.

im trying to understand why people take 4x drones over 4x pathfinders. whats the advantage?

and put the extra points into a velocity tacker on an ion accelerator tide

The cad riptide should be an iontide and another riptide from the riptide wing should be the 2nd burst tide as the burstides always want to nova

why not run it as a FSE CAD?

run a commander with iridium, shield gen, drone controller with 2 marker drones, a squad of 4-6 marker drones and drop the pathfinders

drop the elite slot riptide and run 2 y tides



also run all the riptides in the riptide wing as burst cannon/sms

@Kholzerino: I hadnt thought about the bunker w hatch. Would you use this to advance him forward? I was thinking infiltrating. The YVarha is soooo good. Original list had 3. Its the solution to derpstriking D Wraith guard, Warp Spiders, Grav Cent, Termies etc. Objective grabbing. The reason for AunVa is his leadership buff and bargain 6+ FNP who can hang with the riptides.

@Trazer985: Drones >> Pathfinders because of relentless. They can move and shoot the maker at full BS.

because you can run the same CAD for cheaper and get more out of it

commander - iridium, shield gen, drone controll, marker x2

crisis suit - bkr - 23 x2

marker drones x4-6

y tide x2

storm surge

your marker drones are pretty much un-killable unless str 10 hits your commander

put your obj under a building out of LOS and just hide a suit on top of it.


I honestly think the Y tide is the best unit in the tau empire.

i really suggest running two of them so you aren't hindered by losing one right away.

The marker drones in your firewarrior units are a bad call. First they will take wounds at majority toughness so t3. Second there's no good way for them to be any better than that. And min squads of t3 men will get wiped of the board with a stuff breeze.

I have never ever in my years of playing 40k seen someone field aun va. So congrats on that. But for a competitive list I would say he is not worth it. First he gives your opponent extra victory points for getting killed which will not be hard since his unit cannot handle Bolter Fire. Second he cannot attach to anything and therefore has few chances for look out sirs.

In a CAD why take drones over tetras? Especially if you're using y'varha's(which I also think you should have a min of 2 in a list)

Pathfinders can't hold a candle to drones in the new codex with their formation giving inceptor and bs3. That and having t4 makes them the obvious choice.

If you're going to take a velocity tracker take it on a burst cannon riptide not and ion.

This is kind of rude for me to do this but I must ask because I believe I red it this way. Can you still take the farsighted enclave as a CAD. Not the formation and have an army of just suits? I have been getting so many mixed answers. Very new to tau but I will say I agree with anything saying to use the Y tides. They are rough!

@Thread: AunVa is my choice because he seems resilliant and leadership can buff the whole table and help vs psyckery. True though... I have never fielded him. He's painted though....

Yes. The Tau Mont'ka book (These rules replace the rules in the Farsight Enclaves Book) has the rule 'Battlesuit Spearhead' which allows you to take XV8 Crisis Teams as a Troop Choice in a CAD.

Well the bunker sits in front of the riptides. The escape hatch sits 12" in front of that. Invisible Deathstars that approach, he pops out and nerfs invs, Riptides shoot. And he can't be tarpitted, shot at or otherwise neutralised until he's been effective. As for the Y'Vhara. Yea they are great. But is it better than a BS5 riptide (Fire Team plus the formation buff) that can shoot twice in one turn. At different targets. And if you are facing spiders, you pop your nova charge off on ripple fire too and you are shooting 16 TL Str 5 shots at the gribblies. I mean, damn son. And the best cure for DS WG is an EWO Ion tide, no?
