Hi Guys,

I've been out of the hobby for some years now and I struggle with some of the rules regarding shooting. Please help me out by clarifying the following rules and situations:

1. Termagants or ripperswarms are positioned in front of a monstrous creature (Tervigon?), does he get a 5+ cover safe? When won't he?
2. A tank is shooting over troops, his turret is clearly higher than the models, does his target get a cover safe? If not, what if the troops are closer to the target than to the tank?
2.5 What happens in regards to elevation (hills etc)?
3. A tank or unit shoots at a target but only has LON to 1 model, the other 4 are hiding behind a wall. Can he kill more than 1 model?
4. Blast markers shooting at a target, do you get cover from being behind units or barricades? Barrage cancels it obviously.
5. Targeting models with a large base with blast markers, can you place the marker's centre at the back of the base (for better scatter and damage opportunities).
6. Flaming units (not vehicles), can you maximise hits by placing the template in such a way it hits 4 models from unit A and 5 models from unit B instead of 5 models from unit A only? In other words, do you need to maximise the hits versus one unit?

6. Deepstriking unit scatters on a ruin. Will the ruin's walls cause a mishap?

Thanks,

Chris

1,2,2.5) Are you drawing LoS over the unit or through the unit? if its through then they get a cover save
3) The wound allocating rules a clear you can only allocate wounds to models you can see
4) Blasts determine cover exactly like normal shooting
5) Blast says center over model, not over center of model
6) The template rules are clear that you have to cover as much of the target as possible
7) You didn't land in impassible terrain so no

Regarding 1,2,2.5, so if part of the target is covered by models, the target gets an cover safe. Termagants cover the feet of a Tervigon, thus they give cover, right?

Right.

But then you get into "gaps between a unit"; which can be tricky for some: best option in that case for over vs through is to look from another angle to the right or left at the same level as your firing model.

Example: lets say you have a marine with a lascannon firing at a fex with a gaunt unit between them. The ladcannon marine has completely clear los because from his angle there are gaints to either side of the fex. However, that is still an intervening unit. You look from the level of the marine's feet at an angle placing the gaunt to the right and find that there is no blockage of los; you then do the same for the gaunt on the left and it does block part of the fex's feet: the fex now has a cover save. If neither guant blocks los at all; then you are firing over the unit and no cover save is granted.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
