I'm looking for carry case specifically for 2 wraithknights and 3 Crimson hunters, but also this may be useful for other people looking to find good carry cases for their odly shaped 40k models
Currently I am using a box lined with bubble wrap with the models in foam packaging chips, it does the job well but is a pain to put models back in efficiently so they are taking up least amount of space

I got a Tyrant case from Gifts For Geeks:
http://giftsforgeeks.org.uk/shop/719/product/908254626/the-tyrant-army-figure-case-standard-loadout/
It's a nice case and a lot cheaper than GW cases. There's an option on the site to build your own, where you can spec which foam trays you want.

Large oddly shaped things are never going to pack well.
KR has custom foam for both of those units. Depending if you magnetized your WK’s arms, he will fit in either a full depth, half or full width tray. The flyers are 3/4 deep, half width trays.
Best case, you can fit everything into 3 KRU worth of space. If you glued the arms on, you are going to be over that, but not at 4. Should have extra space for infantry/bikes/etc as well.

They both look good thanks, also have 6 grav tanks I need cases for
My assembled wraithknight has his arms glued on but is not glued at the waist and the one I'm in the process of assembling is going to have a more dynamic pose but also not glued at the waist
Anyone have experience cutting their own foam? That would be ideal for me
I'm thinking about better ways to store as well, I might get a revenant or two and a phantom titan at some point, wondering how you could create a custom case for those

The closest I’ve come to cutting my own is using pluck foam. Which is not a bad option.
The lowest cost option is probably to find some upholstery foam and a cheep plastic tub. You should be able to find some tutorials online on how to do it.

I had heard of pluck foam before and had wrongly assumed you just pull off bits of foam from a block
Looking at a video it looks ideal
Are there any other methods that don't involve foam? Just curious

Actually, that is pluck foam. You have a grid of perforated little squares and just tear out the parts you don’t need. It gives you most of the customization of a bespoke tray, but is something you can pick up from major manufacturers (so fits in cases).
For non foam, the only major option is probably magnets. And I’m not sure that will scale for really large models. But it can be as simple as glueing a magnet under each mini and just slapping them onto a cookie sheet. You can get fancy by lining a plastic tub with some sheet metal, or some sort of rack system. You do need to be careful about lateral shocks, as magnets are not the best for that. But it keeps things mostly in place.

Yeah I saw in the video, before I thought it was a solid block and you would just rip bits off

Ahh. Yah, that would be pretty rough.
If you do need to cut foam, use a sharp knife (have some spare blades, they dull quick) put some tension on the foam, and use short, light cuts. I’ve only done this on small parts (like cutting the optional chunks out of my KR) but it works. In theory, if you have a large block of foam, you should be able to get the spaces you need for your minis.

Found this case for £25 from Maplins:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/flight-case-with-foam-n70ap?cmpid=ppc&gclid=Cj0KEQjw5ti3BRD89aDFnb3SxPcBEiQAssnp0nMLuzJQafOBdekExcCq8jRUzvFJC7XEYRLhbrl2ilYaAnks8P8HAQ
So easy to do and have ordered 3 more to house my 6-7 grav tanks, 2 Wraithknights and 2 Wraithlords. I will be easily be able to fit 4 Grav tanks per case with a load of extra room down the middle
Use Excel to plan the most efficient way to place everything, 18x25 removable bits of foam Automatically Appended Next Post: Very decent price bearing in mind if I had bought all from GW then thats £120 worth of models £25 for a decent case is well worth it
