Hi Dakka,

This may be a silly question but would like a second pair of eyes on this if possible.

The strafing run rule increases the BS of an attack by 1 against: Beasts, Bikes, Cavalry, Infantry, Monstrous Creatures and Vehicles without the Skimmer or Flyer type

Do you get this benefit when shooting at Jetbikes as a subset of the Bike category or do you just use your regular BS? Same can be said about Jump and Jetpack infantry and whether or not they are subject to the Strafing run rule.

Apologies again if this is an obvious question and thanks in advance for the help!

Jetbikes are not Bikes, but Jump Infantry and Jet Pack Infantry follow the rules for Infantry as well as Jump/Jet Pack respectively.

So Strafing Run would apply not apply to Jetbikes but would apply to Jump/Jet Pack Infantry.

You also get strafing run against FMCs.

How d'you figure that?
Flying Monstrous Creature is not on the list of types Strafing Run triggers off of and "flying" is not a special add-on category like jet and jump either.

But Monstrous Creatures are listed and "Flying Monstrous Creatures are Monstrous Creatures that have a number of additional rules." (Unit Types chapter, Flying Monstrous Creatures section).

MCs and FMCs are not the same however, and you cannot simply lump FMCs in any conversation talking about MCs.

So is this quote is lying then?

"Flying Monstrous Creatures are Monstrous Creatures that have a number of additional rules." (Unit Types chapter, Flying Monstrous Creatures section).

So somehow Flying Monstrous Creatures are NOT Monstrous Creatures?

I don't understand what you are saying

Flying Monstrous Creatures are "Unit type: FMc" whereas Monstrous Creatures are "Unit type: Mc" so appear to me to be considered completely different types of units for the purpose of Strafing Run and similar rules. A Dakkajet for example has Strafing Run and can also take the Flyboss upgrade which grants it BS3 (effectively +1 BS) against FMC which would seem to confirm they are separate unit types.
Infantry have "Unit type: In" while Jump Infantry has "Unit type: In, J". That implies to me that Jump Infantry is considered a sub-set of the Infantry unit type.

I'm not certain if that means Jump Infantry would count as infantry for Strafing Run or would require the rule to be more specific to include them, I would however lean towards allowing Strafing Run to include Jump Infantry. Probably more HIWPI than RAW.

As Deathreaper points out however, the Flying Monstrous Creature rules tell you they are Monstrous Creatures with additional rules. It's plain as day.

Jump and Jet Pack Infantry are clearly Infantry also, because Jump and Jet Pack tell you such units follow the rules for both unit types.

Indeed. It would make the Flyboss rule's inclusion of FMCs redundant alongside Strafing Run but I can live with that. As I said I wasn't really sure and just thought I could add some food for thought to the discussion.
