So I'm building a list, it's more for fun. I want to start by saying my meta is not the most competitive, I play more harlequins and DE than anything else, some craftword/corsair eldar, but they don't take d-weapons or wraithknights. It's friendly. The worst list is non-capnotek decurion necrons or a white scars grav biker list. (grr)

SO, I'm building a for fun grey knights assault list. So far I know I'm using:
10 purifiers, with some hammers/incinerators to taste
the purifier leader, crowe
at least one squad (probably two) of terminators, again with hammers to taste.

To deliver this, I'm going to take the land raider spearhead formation, because the av 14 and only explodes counts looks great. 2 redeemers and a crusader, with the purifiers combat squadded in one redeemer, and the termies one in a redeemer, and the one with crowe in the crusader.

My question is, who do I use to support this. I'm looking at either sisters or inquisition. I have about 300-400 points left, and I'm torn between inquisitors for rad/psi-stroke grenades, or another psicannon (and a little more warp charges, for the 092384029385 cleansing flames I want to fire) and possibly if points allow, some nice plasma acolytes in psibolt twin heavy bolter chimeras.

For sisters, I'm looking at an allied detachment, one unit of sisters for lots of melta in an immolator, but the main point is the priests, one per squad, and possibly some repentia instead of a termie squad for land raider/knight hate. The priests' reroll saves would make me laugh at any non ap 2 in combat, and better against the ap 2 with my invul save, as well as the hatred rule.

I'm just not sure which way to go. Either one can take a battle conclave instead of a termie squad if I want it. I've thought of trying to sprinkle both, but it just doesn't fit. I also thought of using 4 land raiders and smaller squads (henchmen with crusaders/death cult instead of as many purifiers) but I want the core to be GK, even if I am doing a pre-5th full inquisition list.

If you want it be be fluffy, take inquisition. Add rad-grenades to your assault units, take servo-skulls, and use infantry to hold the objectives in the backfield. Maybe even Razorbacks if there's points.

Is taking allies a must? Why not go pure Grey Knights and add Interceptors, a Storm Raven or Dreadknights?

What about an Imperial Knight- it can be fluffy if you want it to be.

Admech is also fluffy. The grey Knights have their own mini forge world called Deimos (which I believe according to fluff was a moon of Mars that was towed to Titan for the gks)

A tech priest with fun vehicle buffs/repairs would be good for your tanks

I am interested in using ik, possible admech how would you do it?

Hmmm. I guess the reason I wasn't looking at the IK is because (and I know this is sub-optimal) I'm looking more at assault than shooting. To be fair, I've never used or faced a knight, but they seem like they're too fragile, but I tend to assume any of my units are fragile until proven otherwise. As for the allies, I just liked the idea of the buffing to the assault squads. Stormravens... I've never used them, I just hate the idea of no matter how well I roll, I'm not charging until turn 3, unless I take the landing pad. (come in turn 2, then can't assault until 3).

if I did use a knight, I figure i'd go for the ranged one RF battle cannon and thermal cannon, maybe even a carapace weapon, to provide a long range striking, force the opponent to move and react, rather than always having a range advantage.

I never even considered the admech/skitarii, I don't own anything of them, though we're pretty okay with proxies.

The whole idea was to try to make a list that's fun for casual games without dreadknights.

Only Ordo Xenos Inquisitors get Rad Grenades, which is not exactly fluffy. Ordo Malleus Inquisitors can take Terminator Armour, Nemesis Demon Hammers and Psycannons though, which is neat. Plus Codex: Inquisition Psyk-Out Grenades have a different rule to the Codex: Grey Knights ones so you get an additional benefit - Inquisition Psyk-Out grenades drop both Demons and Psykers to Initiative 1 on the turn you charge, while Grey Knight ones prevent Psykers from getting bonus attacks against you when you get charged.

I ran an IK with my purifier army in 6.5 edition. A Paladin IK is decent enough in melee (strength D afterall) and he wants to be up close with his gun anyway because it's melta. Even being fragile can be beneficial and fun because they tend to EXPLODE spectacularly when they die. So charge him right down the opponent's throat and dare him to blow it up. But to be honest, they're not that fragile. And your opponent is going to have 3 Land Raiders to contend with in your army as well so you're giving them target saturation. I think an IK is a good fit.

EDIT: Sorry, Paladin is the wrong IK. I'm thinking of the one with a Melta weapon. Errant.

I routinely run a Knight Errant with my Draigo Shunt-Punch list at 1850 and over. The Errant acts like a Super-NDK in it's role of being a threat unit, while it's Thermal Cannon brings welcomed Melta to my list. The shorter threat range benefits the Errant, as well, as it will be in range to assault anything that survives the Melta blast.

Okay then. I'll look into putting an errant into my list, when I'm not doing the spearhead thing. I really don't know if I'll be able to do 3 LR, a Knight, and the troops inside the LR's, but I'll do some numbers crunching, I like it though, it gives them another target, and just overwhelms the foe with high value targets.

Centurion devastators with grav are great allies as well since a 3-man squad brings 15 AP2 shots. If you're already taking landraiders (and/or draigo) you've got a delivery system, they fit into a drop pod as well.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I hate Cents. I'll probably never run them if I can possibly help it. I don't care if it gimps my list. I hate Cents, I think they should have the profile terminators have, and I think Grav is ridiculous. I recognize it's use against MC's, but thankfully in my more casual meta, I don't need it, and if it got to where it was required to spam it, I would probably shelve the army.

-- Some of that grav hate is honestly from where I like GK terminators, and it just depresses me how fast I just pick up an army against those things.
