So battle brothers is a rather marmite topic, its either hated or loved. But instead of the old space marine on space marine or eldar on deldar action I had a little thought...

What if everyone was battle brothers with everyone?

Of course the initial thought is that everything would descend in madness. Sweet beautiful madness. And of course I am by no means suggesting that 40k should be played in this style regularly (or ever), and this isn't really an argument for or against the merits of battle brothers. Rather this is a fun little thought exercise of, what if? What sort of mad combos could you open up? What unexpected force could you pull out of da finkin cap next?

Find out what happens when you stick a veil of darkness in your ork green tide!
Smirk as your genestealers hang out in land raiders!
Have a little grin as Abaddon and Draigo team up to take on an army of guardsmen lead by a farseer!
Laugh maniacally as your daemons of chaos can stand slightly closer to other people!

There can be some pretty damn fun combos out there if you look for them, and I'd quite like to see some I haven't thought of. Of course everyone can go down the route of "Ah I have 2+ invulnerable on my whole army now, hon hon hon oui oui" but then, of course, you could be accused of being that guy.

Have a little go!

It's not really much of a battle brothers situation, but I've always found the idea of a tyranid detachment with orks or imperial guard to be funny. The idea would basically be that the orks or guard tossed a grenade down a hole into a tyranid hive and pissed them off like an ant hill. Guard would sit back and bombard everything from a mile away while the angry bugs wreck the coming enemy forces. Orks would just...be that stupid.

Unbound lets you do this.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Unbound only lets you run individual units in armies, it doesn't make everybody Battle Brothers; you still suffer from One Eye Open and similar rules.

Man, you would do admek with orks. Kastelans with kff support, interspersed by tankbustas backed by mekgunz makes for ded ard and killy force.
It's what a dreddmob should reAly be.

"dont put all yer boyz in one trukk" "umless its dredds, then take as much uf those as possible"

Do you really need a battle brothers rule to play in friendly games? I think not

Ally with converted loyalist marines, make chaos marines awesome.

But on a less grumpy note, marker light support on orks, more dakka, meet most dakka.

A fully corrupted kaldor drago has fallen and is charging holy terra leading a league of demons.

Drop pod Necrons, with a C'tan shard going bash bros with a demon prince, space marine captain and a hive tyrant.

nids & necrons. nids absorb the biomass, and the necrons can have their tombworlds back, shorn of anything that most races would want of them.

You could just ignore that and make everyone Battle Brothers.

The point about having rules is that they establish constraints. You can always set aside constraints if you like. (That's why rules like Unbound logically are silly. You don't need a rule to tell you you can ignore rules.)
