Subject: [500] - Black Templars - Attempting a GW battle

The Last Chancer Who Survived

With deep-set pessimism in my heart, I'm going to try to get a battle at one of my closest GW's. I'm aware of the incredible unlikeliness of finding a game o'er there, but off I go! *misguided grin*
I haven't used my Templars since summer last year. I haven't found a single GAME since summer last year, so I have no idea how this works anymore.
The plan is to try to get in as many 500 point battles as I can. This brings me to this list:
=== 495 pts ===
Emperor's Champion [140 pts]
Crusader Squad w/Sword Bro (Pwr Sword, Storm Bolter), +5 Muhreens [170 pts]
Scout Squad w/Storm Bolter [60 pts]
Dreadnought w/Heavy Flamer, Twin-Lascannon [125 pts]
=== 495 pts ===
The use of the list is pretty obvious, and I'm not much able to change it without dropping £50-£75 on more troops and transports. Which I'm not going to do without getting reliable games.
My questions are:
How can I best use this list?
What units would best augment this list at the 500-1000 point level?
How bad do I need to get Land Raiders into every game?
And finally:
Does your local GW support gaming?

Playing SCOUTS as a Templar. For shame brother.
I really have no experience on this front, little with gaming, and none with scouts.

I think his point was Scouts are usually part of Crusader squads, rather than on their own. He's just viewing the list from a fluff over gameplay point.
Land Raiders are WAY too pricey for 500pts, they are half your points before you can even put something in it! I wouldn't use a 10 man squad, so put your Scouts with the Crusaders and get a second Crusader squad.
The Dread isn't going to be great IMO. A long range weapon like a Lascannon shouldn't be with a Power Fist, they're trying to fill 2 different roles. If you can, either put another Lascannon on (for a Mortis Dread) or another Power Fist on. The Dread will perform much better.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, which one is your local GW?

Either Stevenage or St. Albans. Whenever I have previously gone to either, they've not been up for games.
