Supporting Fire: When an enemy charges, all friendly models with this special rule in units within 6" of the unit being charged can choose to fire overwatch.
Let's say unit "A" is charged by some cultists. The cultists get overwatched only by unit A, survive and make the charge and unit A is now locked in combat. Percy the daemon prince decides to also charge unit "A". Can unit "B" which has the supporting fire rule elect to fire overwatch against Percy even though unit "A" is locked in combat?
Thanks guys.

jumping in with the rulebook quote for locked in combat, cannot fire overwatch if charged at,
RAW I think this is a gap, which means they can, but cant in RAI, or any upcoming FAQ that could happen.

The Tau codex says that models can fire overwatch "as if they were also targets of the charge". In practice it would be the same as a unit multi charging a unit that is locked in combat and a 2nd unit that isn't locked in. The 2nd unit would be able to overwatch because it is a target of the charge. Supporting Fire allows units to act like they are a target of the charge even if they are not.

sorry i've changed my view on this from 2 rules:
1) BRB - It is worth pointing out that units that are locked in combat cannot fire overwatch"
2) Supporting fire - as if they are targets of the charge.
if they cant fire overwatch if they were charged as well. then they cannot offer supporting fire

I don't think he is asking if Unit A can overwatch. That is clear that he cannot. he is asking if Unit B, who is completely unegaged and has yet to overwatch, can overwatch.
The answer is an undoubted Yes. This is RAW, RAI, and clearly the whole reason Supporting Fire exists.
