OK, so here's the deal. My buddy has slowly been ramping up the cheese in his foot eldar list. Last weekend, I wanted to try out a landraider spearhead for my Carcharodons, so he drastically altered his list to include 3 of the aspect formations, one with 3 squads of 5 fire dragons *BS 5), 1 with 3 squads of 10 swooping hawks (BS 5), and 1 with 3 squads of 10 banshees (WS). Plus a CAD of bikes with the avatar. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty. He expects me to play Carcharodons again this weekend, but I'd like to "surprise" him with my old Salamanders army. I'm torn between 2 choices for list. Keep in mind, whatever he plays this weekend will very likely be either the same or extremely close to the one he wrecked me with.

Option 1

Gladius

Vulkan He'Stan
Command Squad - Drop pod, Apothecary, 4 Vets with Storm Shield and Melta

Devestator Squad - 4 Plasma Cannons

Attack Bike Squad - 3 Multi Meltas

1 x 10 Man Tactical - Rhino with Extra Storm Bolter, Multi Melta, Flamer, Combi Flamer
2 x 10 Man Tactical - Drop Pod with Locator Beacon, Heavy Bolter, Flamer, Combi Flamer

10th Company
2 x 5 Man Scouts - Land Speeder Storm w/ Heavy Bolter, Combi Flamer, 4 Bolters
1 x 5 Man Scouts - Missile Launcher, 4 Bolters

Allied LotD

1 x 9 man Squad - Multi Melta, Melta, Combi Melta

Option 2

CAD 1

Vulkan He'Stan
Master Harath Shen
Command Squad - 5 with Storm Shield and Melta, Drop Pod

1 x 8 Man LotD - Multi Melta, Melta, Combi Melta

2 x 10 Man Tactical - Rhino with Extra Storm Bolter, Multi Melta, Flamer, Combi Flamer

1 x 5 Man Assault Squad - Drop Pod with Beacon, 2 Flamers

CAD 2

Bray'Arth Ashmantle
Drop Pod with Beacon

2 x 5 Man Scouts - Land Speeder Storm, Combi Flamer, 4 bolters

In both lists, all the tacticals will be combat squadded (heavy with 4 bolters, serge and special with 3 bolters). Option 1 has the obvious advantage of using doctrines, Option 2 provides me with two nasty anvil units (Bray'Arth and the command squad with 2+/3++/4+++). Swooping hawks can take out Bray'Arth if I can't kill them fast enough, but if I can kill enough of the fire dragons on the drop, he'll have one hell of a time bringing down that command squad.

Option 1
74 models, 1 heavy flamer, 8 Flamers/combi, 11 meltatype

Option 2
58 Models, 3 Heavy Flamers, 8 Flamers/combi, 11 meltatype

Working on it

I'd go with option 1, it seems like it would work better.

On the other hand you could run a souped up Shark list

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

How are you using LotD for an ally? They are an elite slot now and would make your list unbound.

They've always been an elite slot. They ALSO have their own Codex if you feel like making a sergeant your warlord. Complete with specials item and warlord traits. Not a terrible supplement considering it only has one unit choice and you can't play full legion lists.

I've tried souped up shark lists. They do really, really well in normal games, but like I said, this guys idea of fun is to stomp all over everyone and cover you in cheese.
