For a significant amount of time we’ve been working recently on a Horus Heresy era army of Imperial Fists army of big proportion, centered around Sigismund taking the war to Mars – we’ve painted it in a less-common, metallic approach rather than usual bright yellow.












How do you like the final effect?

They look great but I'm really not getting the Imperial Fist vibe, take Sigismund out of the picture and you'd assume you've got a big force of Minotaurs there. In addition to that some of the green highlights look rather lazily applied, almost as if you've gone "This needs some green to break it up" and just given it a quick airbrush over it. The vehicles' exhaust vents at the rear for example, and the Dreads' autocannons and assault cannon; there's not really a reason why they'd be luminous green. The rest of the green while nicely done, could use a bit of definition to give it some depth.

I actually think Sigi is the least off looking one. The rest does really say more Minotaurs than Fists.

I am not digging them in the metallics, though I can appreciate the work and time that went into it.

I will agree on the green OSL. It reads rushed, but I know you guys have a loose approach to it anyhow.

When I first saw these I ought " this is how I've always imagined Heresy era IF". Gold suits their role and personality way better than sunflower yellow. Just my meaningless 2 cents. Very nice paint job. I have been knocking around the idea of a gold colored sort of Praetorian Guard type squad for my IF. This has inspired me to make my stern guard gold.

Great looking force just not how I would paint IF personally.

What the client wants, the client gets! Awesome awesome awesome painting skills though.

yes that is an airbrush. yes most people seem to enjoy it. i will never have popular thoughts, ever.

It's certainly more muted than the traditional bright yellow, but looks fantastic.
