Have 13 points left and not sure what to use it for - I'd like to make at least 1 of those dreads venerable if possible. Also Assault squads have no specials as I plan to put characters in each of them to try to maximize their assault potential. Any advice would be appreciated. I play ultra marines also so none of that white scars gak.

First thing I noticed is the even number of pods. Consider switching an assault squad to a drop pod to make it 3, and give them 2 flamers. By having 3 pods, you can bring both your dreads in on turn 1, which provides a much larger problem for your opponent, and if you can plan it properly, you'll also provide some nice cover for your approaching razorbacks.

I don't entirely understand why you're set on keeping with Ultramarines tactics here. It would make much more sense if you maxed out the weapons on your devestator squads to abuse the devestator doctrine more, but as you only have 1 lascannon per squad, it feels as if you're limiting yourself for the sake of 2 models. As you mentioned, White Scars would do fantastically here if you switch one of your HQs to Khan. Or you could consider doing Salamanders with Vulkan to twinlink your dreads flamers and MC the melta you've got going. Or even Iron Hands, for obvious reasons. Unless you shuffle some points around to max out those devestator squads, I'd seriously consider making the switch.

You make good points about tactics. The 1 Laz per dev was just trying to take advantage of the signum. I'd be bs 5 and rerolling 1's from the tactical doctrine which I'd be calling 3 times instead of 2 with another chapter tactic. I'd give em a plasma gun if I could but I can't.

3 drop pods > 2 for sure. I'd hate to lose a razor but that is an option. My plan was actually to only deploy 1 dread in a pod and start the other with my razor line for CC support. This would give me the option of dropping the other dread turn 1 or turn 2.

I totally agree with you that Whitescars is the best way to run this formation. In certain match-ups though - particularly vs Necrons. Scouting forward just gets your obliterated and I face a ton of Necrons. Which also makes another Assault Doctrine useful to. Kantor would be real nice If I could squeeze him in. Those wouldn't be bad tactics ether.
