A few months ago I started working on a gaming table little by little, by the following parameters:

-Clear playability for 40K, meaning usability and clarity for playing purposes.
-Easy to pack away, light and durable.
-A coherent theme with a gamemat.
-Maximum gains with minimum effort.

I mostly used readymade stuff, but some pieces I just made myself by combining bitz, finnfoam and whatnot. I made use of the Ruined Sector set by Mantic Games which I find is a great value kit. Most of the time was spent on shading (see rightmost pic on 4th row with the rocks compared to the ones printed on the mat) and some pieces I painted multiple times before I was satisfied with the result. In the buildings I did some rust, wear, dirt and blackening from burning.

The idea as mentioned above is not a showcase level presentation as I have no time nor interest for such a thing as I also work on my miniatures, but the table is now in a phase inwhich I can call it playable on. With time I can focus on little details and add more during the years. For the base I just have a 6x4 table made from plywood that's supported by wooden frames, which can be locked in place with bolts.*

Basically you could make a table like this in about 4 days. In the bottom there's some pics with my Raptors, of which I got a separate thread in my sig. I hope you dig.

Love this, looks really great. What's the basic recipe for painting the buildings?

Cheers mate. The exact shades I can't know for sure (as I just mixed them myself from vaurious paints) but basically it comes down to a really basic brown undercoat with the sand glued in.

Ontop of that I airbrushed some really dark grey in a random pattern. The rust I airbrushed with Vallejo Model Air Light Rust, and ontop of that I applied some Vallejo Oxide Paste. I then drybrushed the buildings with Leadbelcher, and then again with a lighter silver but just on the most visible edges. Lastly I airbrushed some dark grey, and then black to make the burnt parts.

Hey, it's the guy with the awesome Raptors.

I like your table, the buildings and rocks really match the colour of the mat. What gaming mat is this btw?

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I will add a few elements in time to increase the amount of stuff on the table, I'm just glad it's now playable.

The mat in question is a Gamemat.eu -mat, titled Fallout Zone. They are of really high quality and I recommend checking them out. I've also done a product review on our website (page 2 if I remember correctly) you can find it in my signature below (Nemesis Wargaming.)

I also got great news, as I have a commission painting service website coming up. Exciting times.
