Hi!
So I've been looking into RPGs that have rules and guidelines for solo play (while still forming a relatively good challenge). Anyone know any good RPGs that have rules for solo play?

Is there a point in playing a pen&paper RPG solo? How could that be fun?
If you want to play an RPG alone, you'd better look into computer RPGs instead. Baldur's Gate is said to be great, and I personally really like Neverwinter Nights 2.

But if you are set on a solo pen&paper RPG, I found this thread on Reddit for you that might be helpful:

I also found this: http://www.rpgnow.com/product/20798/Mythic-Game-Master-Emulator?it=1&affiliate_id=15975 It seems like it would work with most, if not all RPG systems.
And this too: https://www.rpgsolo.com/

Solo RPing is a thing. There is a Google group (https://plus.google.com/communities/116965157741523529510). It kind of depends on what you are looking for, though, and relies on you to be both GM (for interpreting results) and player.

Two Hour Wargames has a pretty neat Dungeon Crawl game if you are looking for that part and their other games are designed to support solo play.

The Mythic GM simulator is designed for more conventional RPGs (and also supports its own RPG).

There are also a lot of solo RPG like board games out there that may scratch the itch.

Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books. Especially the ones like the Lone Wolf series, it even requires a character sheet.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Don't forget Way of the Tiger. Great series of ninja-themed CYOA books in the vein of Lone Wolf.

Zombicide does. It's a board game with rpg elements such as character levels, skills, weapon pick ups, all set in a zombie infested city. Plus you get to control up to six characters at once.

All those sound pretty cool! I'll be sure to look into those (especially the Mythic GM)
Thanks for the answers!

Choose your own adventure books.

Look for Lone Wolf. There are like 28 books or something.

They also have the Lone Wolf series available on Android platform devices.

You could just write a story or short stories about your character... you could use roll tables for out comes.

You can play the board games Gears of War, pathfinder card game, and arkham horror solo with 1 or more characters, as they are cooperative games, and pretend it is an RPGs.

Before the Choose Your Own Adventure books, there were solo adventures for the RPG Tunnels & Trolls (Flying Buffalo, Inc. 1975.)

These used the actual RPG rules and a scenario book, so maybe this is the type of thing you are looking for. The latest rules and adventures are available from:

http://www.tunnelsandtrolls.com

There is a free download of the 5th edition rules with two solo adventures to give you a taste of the game.

I played T&T in the mid-late 70s in preference to D&D, though I had the Basic D&D rules too, and I had a couple of the solo adventures.

They also did a modern pulp era game called Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes which had some solo adventures. I remember playing the Jade Jaguar book and hosing an Aztec war goddess with a full 50 round drum from a Tommy Gun. Great days!

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
