Crushing Black Templar Crusader Pilot

Hey guys,
OK here's the issue I'm having: I'm trying to decide which army I want to play next, but I'm at an impasse because I can't decide on what faction to buy, what to buy first and what sort of list structure I'd be aiming for. The overriding thing is that they have to be Chaos. Another thing is that I want to try and avoid Close Combat and No Psykers (I have my Black Templars for that haha), which is why I'm ruling out World Eaters and all Successor Warbands.
I narrowed my preferences down to the Iron Warriors, Death Guard and Traitor Guardsmen who are not dedicated to Khorne because I love the fluff and the look of those two Legions and guardsmen are flexible. As I said before, I don't know how to decide purely because I don't know how they're played or the sorts of lists that are typically run to be fluff friendly (and hopefully competitive too, but being competitive isn't a necessity). Out of my two local GWs, one staff member was only knowledgeable about the Iron Warriors, and the other said "If you want to go with the popular choice, go Iron Warriors. If you want to be hipster, do Death Guard." So in lieu of heeding the later advice, here I am, DakkDakka, with a couple of questions:
-- What would be involved in a typical Iron Warriors list and how would they typically be played? Do you have to give up being fluffy to be competitive?
-- What would be involved in a typical Death Guard list and how would they typically be played? Do you have to give up being fluffy to be competitive?
-- If I were doing Traitor Guardsmen, would they benefit by following a particular Chaos God? And how would your answer affect the sorts of lists they'd use?
-- Do you think there's a better option than these three? If so, what is it and what would be involved in a typical list for that faction?
Cheers Guys

I'm just getting into Renegades of Vraks.
Basically Nurgle or Khorne if you want some added benefits/choices
or none.
I love the opportunities to do almost whatever you want model-wise.

Death Guard is a cool Army to play.
I suggest to look into HH DG units and the Primarch.

Yeah, if your going for 40k your options are INCREDIBLY limited, especially for Iron Warriors. But, if you go with HH, all three options have some cool stuff! But, DG are actually pretty anti-psyker, so you might want to look for a another army if you go with them. If you have any daemons, I'd suggest taking a look at Word Bearers, who get to be CSM before CSM existed, and can bring daemon allies. Also, they get a ton of lvl1 psykers, and are basically the only ones with access to Malefic Daemonology
