Hey guys,

Just started on some 30k Thousand Sons, my painting method for these will be the same as my Nomads from infinity. Prime Black, Spray Leadbelcher highlight with chainmail and mithril silver and then use a red ink to give it that red metallic look.

The problem I am finding with the 30k stuff is the ink is running off (like paint does on resin sometimes). Any tips on how to stop this?

I think it's a surface tension thing. Maybe try adding some flow improver, lahmian medium, brush-on gloss varnish or washing-up liquid.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

It's the finish of whatever you used as your last layer being too glossy. Possibly, the paint isn't shaken enough. Some washes, like P3, will come out super glossy if it's been sitting for a while and hasn't been fully homogenized.

Clearcoat with matte like bubber suggested and the paint will stop beading off of it

Did you wash them with soap and water before starting to paint them? It could be mold releasing agent causing this as well.

It's unlikely mould release agent is still being a problem for paint beading after priming and basecoating.

What sort of red ink is it? That might be the problem. It is most likely a surface tension issue like others have mentioned, but that said I've personally never had a problem with acrylic washes beading up over a GW metallic.

Its the old skool GW red ink in the old hex pot. Never found a use for it until now lol, it seems to be ok after the 2nd coat.
