What color should I paint :

1. The web strap on a Space Marines Imperial Fists rifle?

2. Hand grenades on a belt?

I am painting the leather holsters Army Painter Leather. I have most all Citadel paints and a rapidly growing supply of Army Painter. Not opposed to using Vallejo as I have a ton of models to paint..

I am modeling the Imperial Fists chapter.

Thank you.

I'd suggest a good dark brown for the strap highlighted with a mid/light brown for good contrast.

I do grenades just as metallics but you could do them camo greenish to look military standard issue, or use reds and oranges and all sorts.

Baron, don't forget to talk about the SEALs and Marines you habitually beat up on 2 and 3 at a time, as you PM'd me about.

Perhaps it is a lube issue, seems obvious now.

First, welcome to Dakka.

There really isn’t a wrong answer to those questions. I generally use a pale leather for gun straps and a darker one for holders/pouches. (Bubonic Brown and Bestial Brown respectively, both old GW pots) Just because I don’t want the same leather everywhere on the model. It’s good to mix things up.

Krack grenades I just do silver, but frags I do in a metallic green (Glistening Green, again, old GW) with a green ink over it to bring out the texture.

What colors do you use for your accent colors? Chest eagles, shoulder rims, etc? Got a pic of a WIP? What tone of yellow are you working with? Imperial Fists can be anything from canaries to mustard. Some leather tones would just blend in with the armor, you might be better off with black straps in that case.

I did my first batch of in GW Averland Sunset (mustard) but have just order some AP Daemonic Yellow to move more towards a canary yellow. Then I guess I will have to choose.my theme.

I have done my accents in GW Khorne Red but am thinking of going to a brighter red but Khorne seems to be the most complementary of the GW reds.Nevelon, I like your thoughts on leather.

One thing you might consider for yellow Imperial Fists; purple is the complementary colour to yellow, so maybe use purple as a spot colour on things like the wax seals and/or eye visors, etc.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)
