Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
Not sure if this is the correct place but whatever.
I finished Galaxy in Flames (spoilers below!) a few months ago and I just reread some of it. Wow. It is a great book.
The moment where Loken gave his speech, his fight with Kharn and later Abaddon, when the Virus Bombs started falling, even the intrigues aboard Dies Irae where all well written. Are all the books like this?

.. not all if them. There are a few good ones and a few clangers. Expect disagreement on which is which.

Yeah. Betrayer, Mechanicum and Angel Exterminatus are great.
Battle for the Abyss and Damnation of Pythos are just bad.
Depends on the author and the concept of the book/novel/shortstory.

A Thousand Sons is by far the best book. Betrayer was decent, but it made me like the Ultramarines more than the World Eaters.
Couldn't really get into Mechanicum.
I liked Legion
The First Heretic was pretty good.
Fulgrim was ... Interesting, I guess? It made me hate the legion.

Well I guess that's the difference between scholars and .... Warriors..?
lol On that note, some elements of the World Eaters seemed cool. Maybe they were cool guys pre nails.

Lots of opinions and good discussion on the HH range, on so many forums and FB pages. I suggest based on what you said about GiF, Thousand Sons, Mechanicum, Know no Fear, Fear to Tread, Betrayer... start there, but the possibilities are endless.

I read Battle for the Abyss and while it was not glaringly bad it was just... meaningless. Nothing special or relevant really happened.

Then don't read damnation of Pythos. seriously.
My altime favourite is Know no fear. (but special mention to Thousand Sons, featuring my own legion) Most are pretty good. Lately, there's not been much going on. The Tallarn series of books are pretty good, but moderately hard to find.

As said above, it depends on the author, subject, etc. My opinions below:
On my list of favorites are the first 3 books, The First Heretic, Prospero Burns, Thousand Sons, Mechanicum, Betrayer, and Vengeful Spirit.
Decent: Flight of the Einstein and Fulgrim.
Meh: Most of the rest.
Horrible: Both Dark Angels books (Descent of Angels and Fallen Angels). Ugh, what gak.

Those I didn't like. "What was the point of this book?"
Same with Damnation of Pythos. Added nothing to the overall storyline.
