Hey guys I like the idea of getting a knight as a centrepiece for my army but I don't know which variant would be better the paladin or the errant so I'm looking to get people's opinions?

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I would say the errant is far better: with the large blast it can deal with medium-large blob squads, with the ap2 it can deal with elite units like terminators and with Str9 melta it can deal with tanks/other SH.

The paladin might get 2 shots but they are only small blast and ap3 so not as much versatility.

Could've sworn the RF Battle Cannon was large blast.

So it is. I have been playing that wrong. Still I would go with whatever your local meta is.

I'm thinking the errant is the better fit

I think the Paladin is strictly better. 2 large blast does way more damage to most units in the game. I think its even better against most vehicles because of dealing 2 HPs instead of 1 pen looking for a lucky explode. And for the few units that you really want ap2 or melta for you can just punch it with its StrD weapon.

I swear by the paladin myself. The battlecannon is ordinance too, so it's able to still deal good damage to vehicles while putting tons of wounds into units as well. The targets where you want ap 2 are typically the targets I'm just going to charge anyways.

I'll give the paladin a run out on Thursday and see how he fares

The range on the gun too is nice.
