So I have been stalking the 30K forums, and browsed other websites for tactics, and now have a pretty good idea of how the Legions work. However, my question is along the lines of what Legion it is that can get bonuses to its Heavy Support units and models? I was shopping around on the Forge World website, and I have come to find out that the models I want to get are the Heavy Support models, particularly the Fire Raptor, Dreadnoughts, and the tank options. The Fast Attack options didn't impress me as much, and the Elites seem to be too Legion specific to get at this point.

I know that the Iron Warriors can get an extra Heavy Support slot, but is there a particular Legion that gets bonuses to tanks or Dreadnoughts? Do the Iron Hands get anything like they do in 40K for Tanks?

Book 6 has a bunch of new ROW that can be set with a any legion. One of which is armoured breakthrough, that let's you take predators as troops. Also Dark Angels have a unique rite that improves the ballistic skill of any vehicles in a squadron. I'm sure IH also have something that boosts their tanks but I can't remember exactly what it is.

As always, there is no clear winner in 30k. The easy answer is that every Legion is capable of massed armour and every Legion will do it in slightly different, though not inherently superior, methods. Every Legion would maintain motor pools and so while some may be stereotyped as favouring or limiting their deployments, every single one would at least be capable of the tactic.

All Legions have access to 2 common Rites of War that are based around vehicles.
Armoured Spearhead allows everyone to ride in a Land Raider and additionally provides Ld penalties against Tank Shocks.
Armoured Breakthrough allows Predator Squadrons as Troops, and additionally moves Sicarans into the Elite slot. All of your lighter vehicles become Fast.
Both of these require that your army is entirely mounted.

As for Legion-specifics:
- Sons of Horus get more reliable Reserves rolls and Reavers can Outflank their Rhino/Land Raiders as needed. Also make wider use of Dreadclaws which may allow for armour saturation.
- Death Guard can make the board a poisonous hellscape of phosphex templates and then drive through without noticing.
- Emperor's Children can deliver an Outflanking hammerblow through their Maru Skara.
- Iron Hands get self-repairing vehicles and can Outflank them with a Rite. They also have the only tank-based Character in the game (Who happens to be absolute nails).
- Iron Warriors can get 4 Heavy Support slots and maximise the number of vehicles on the field.
- Alpha Legion can Infiltrate or Outflank their transports depending on your preferred Tactics. Their special Rite is also based around a Rhino-mounted core.
- Raven Guard can Infiltrate all of their transports. Mor Deythan can further Scout and start the game on top of people.
- Ultramarines can use their tanks to 'mark' enemy units to support the infantry, though not so much as a pure-vehicle force.
- Dark Angels get the Ironwing which offers massive benefits to Predators, mounted infantry and Dreadnoughts.
- Blood Angels get Assault Cannons on *everything*. Enough dakka to make an Ork weep.
- White Scars get bonuses for moving fast. One of the easier ways to achieve this is by driving fast and then dismounting infantry.

In practice, everyone loves a good tank.

Mozz, that was a really good and succinct breakdown, kudos to you.

War Kitten- Nothing evens the odds like a reaper chainsword to the naughty bits
Sgt. Vanden- And now I'm a whale with panties. Can't see how this day can get any better.

Awesome, that is everything I could have hoped for! Tanks muchly

Now to get the books, pick a legion, and to accumulate the funds to purchase the models.. I have a Sicaran in the mail, so that will be my first foray into Forge World vehicles aside from their Dreadnoughts.

Mozz is pretty much perfect on this one. But don't forget the hell that is an artillery heavy mechanicum (ordo reductor) list is. As well as a solar auxilia tank line (who all reroll dangerous terrain checks and have a 6+ invuln against blasts BASE)

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Or imperialis militia. They get fewer Leman Russ patterns, but get them cheaper and can take heavy bolter sponsons. A Leman Russ Company led by a command baneblade is quite doable.

Auxilia and Militia can also get Malcador superheavies as normal heavy support rather than needing lord of war slots.

Indeed, if you like big tanks, Auxilia get heavy-support superheavies and HQ choice tank aces whose tanks can fire overwatch, among other rules.

Yeah, I fought against a list very similar to this at the AdeptiCon 30k tournament:

Lol, I didn't even think of the Auxilia or Militia options. I guess I really do need to get the books and figure something out. My first thought of 30K was of Astartes units and models, especially with the Betrayl at Calth box available as a quick booster to get into the game. Seems like there are plenty of options for a wanna-be tread-head like me. Thanks everyone!
