I have a fairly decent Imperial Guard army, but I have yet to paint my tanks as I'm not sure of some things. I know I've read that a regiment will only have one specialty that they focus on so as to not be too powerful should they go rogue. My question is, as a gamer who focuses more on fluff accuracy than slapping some green on everything and calling the job a gud un' would it be alright to have my armor painted as if it is from a different regiment? Or would all the non IG players make fun of me for not matching my color scheme throughout my army?

Should be acceptable.

There are all kinds of regiments though; some are straight infantry, some are straight tank, some are artillery(which generally has quite a bit of infantry), and some are blended(mechanized infantry or line infantry with tank support).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Not just acceptable, it's the Guard's standard operating procedure. Although it's common for regiments to *become* mixed formations when temporary attachments become permanent, almost all are raised as a single type (infantry, cavalry, tank etc) with some regiments being broken up temporarily (at least in theory) to provide support to other regiments.

Exactly. IG strategy is to make specific regiments: armored, infantry, scout etc. and piecemal those out to regions. Those will then be added to other regiments to develop more of a combined arms force.

While PDF is allowed to have combined arms, there are very few regiments (Cadian for one) that are allowed to do so offworld. Its a security feature.

Additionally, as these units are not reinforced, like the Roman Legions they could shrink dramatically in size over time, and the regiments may be reformed by their commander, combining several understrength formations into a new formation like a Kampgrupp or even a formal regiment. All things are possible.

As people have said, it's totally acceptable.

While regiments are specialised, the size of army you field on the tabletop is so much smaller than a regiment that anything is possible. No Inquisitor is going to care that the 5th Lasgunnium Infantry includes a singe tank squadron as support, or that the 7th Explodium Artillery regiment includes a mechanised infantry company to protect the munitions stores.

However, camouflage patterns are likely to be theatre-dependent. So, even though your infantry might be from one regiment and your tanks from another, they could be in the same camo scheme anyway!!

Don't confuse a regiment for an army.

The regiments are type specific, armies are not.

and its nothing to do with "going rogue".

with regard to YOUR army, why stick to one regiment?
