Personally when I weather my marines, (for any color other than black) I do a sponging of a black paint, then a sponging of a metallic sliver (leadbelcher all the way to runefang depending on how bright you want it to be). For black power armor marines I use a 50/50 mix of dryad bark and abbadon black for the initial weathering and then go back to a silver metallic.
