Note (I am from Wisconsin and for some reason dakka dakka has a Canadian Flag next to my name) weird right.

Well this weekend was Adepticon and despite a temporary injury to my leg I was bound and determined to get my games in this weekend. I could not decide on a list with the crazy stuff you run into these days and I wrote up marine lists, demon lists, and even Chaos marine lists. I decided to go with my tried and true favorite army....The Necrons.

My list

(Note I hate the Decurian since it makes your list very boring and predetermined, as well as I like the ob. sec.)

Orikan
D Lord (scythe, 2+/4++)

5 x Immortals
5 x Immortals (N. Scythe)

1 x H. Destroyer
1 x H. Destroyer
1 x H. Destroyer

3 x Can. Spyders
3 x Can. Spyders
1 x Spyder

5 x D marks
5 x D marks

Aegis wall

ALLIED
Celexus Assassin

Canoptek Harvest Formation with 5 wraiths/3 scarab

RND 1.

Hey this is the round I found out Orks have a Decurian thingy now.

Opponents list

Gazzy and the super unit that cant break up on Battlewagon
4 squads of boyz around 10-15 on foot- some with shootas
1 Artily piece (cannon)
squad of gretchin
3 Nobs

I appoligize I forgot my opponents name though.

The mission was a sort of king of the hill where you needed a unit wholly within 12" of the center and your opponent could have none to score the turn number. Also, you could score points for an objective in each deployment zone at games end.

This game was a tactical excersise in avoiding Gazzy while I kill the rest of the army. I guess I wouldnt say avoiding as feeding units to the death brigade. The culmination of the game was Orikan/D lord/Wraiths assaulting Ghazzy and locking them down for 4 melee phases while the scarab swarm amassed and ate the ork army.

The game was a lot of fun and I came out on the good end with a 30-0 win. The Ork army had no Objective Secured units so once I had a unit of Immortals near the center, the game was out of reach for the Ork player.

Game 2. Well my championships tradition is win big rnd 1 then draw a tough player/match up rnd 2 (go figure at the championships).

Mission 2 - The board had 2 scoring zones roughly in no mans land (Dawn of War deployment) and was modified kill points.

My opponent was Bill Kim.

His list

Demon Decurian thingy all Slaanesh

15 chariots or so
2 heralds on seekers who roll up powers (got invisibility) as well as more gear
20 seekers
20 or so Fiends

Bill Nearly filled his deployment zone with units I put nearly everything out and outflanked the assassin.

I have first turn and pump up the scarabs. Bill rushes the army in my face, but he perils and loses invisibility(Schwew). I use my H destroyers to widdle down Fiend units while my scarabs hid behind my wall of 9 spyders. In the center was the Orikan/D lord wraithball. The game turned into a giant hurricane with the eye of the storm being orikan and the D lord vs the giant Seeker unit with the heralds. My scarabs shifted behind the melee left/right/then left again killing whatever of Bills tried to sneek around my edges to kill my small little Kill Point units. Now the game was 4 turns of bloody/buckets of dice/lots of miniatures getting picked up. I have to admit my saves were incredible, and when the smoke cleared (time was called) Orikan had a wound left and I had a single wraith with a wound left in the giant melee.

I had no idea the results as it was a very intense well played game on Bills part, I didnt have time to calculate score. We shook hands at time and added up the totals. I was fortunate to come out with a 16-14 win.

I was happy to get to play one of the 40k legends, but I was hoping for a few more points. Now I would have to max score my last 2 games to slip into the top 16.

Game 3.
I played Jahson with an "H".

Mission was Hammer and Anvil deployment with 2 objectives you progressivly scored in the middle and 4 objectives in the corner scored at games end.

Opponents list

4 x Farseers on Bike (got 2 Invis.)
36 Scat Bikes
3 Warlocks
2 Wraithknights (1 flame thrower, 1 melee expert)

Yikes. Not what I wanted, but this list is a "thing" right now so I was expecting to face it....I just knew it would be tough in this meatgrinder scenerio. My opponent has me go first.

Now Eldar 101. Get 2nd turn and turbo boost at games end to grad objectives. I have seen this as long as Ive been playing the game so I had to keep the scarabs alive to prevent this.

The game was like this.......2 invis. wraithknights jumped up the skinny board while I got shot. I used the wraith ball to grab the melee wraithknight (out of desperation) but I didnt want to commit the scarabs because I had a plan. Skip ahead to turn 5. This was last turn and my scarab swarm had up to this point killed a jetbike unit but it was free. Jahson had wracked up a bit of a lead with the progressive objectives, so I had to take all 4 objectives remaining to win. I had 2 for sure, but I needed to shoot one unit dead hidding in some ruins. I zipped the N scythe over and killed the squad down to 1 bike. Now I needed the Jetbike to break. It did not. Rats, thats one objective.

His 4 other jetbike units were scattered around the center, and the scarabs did a large multicharge to lock all remaining bike units in place keeping them from zipping to victory. Now I had an objective secured unit and 2 Heavy destoyers circling my last objective, and Jahson only (hah only) had 2 wraithknights to clear all models, or we draw the objective. The last scatter laser shot killed my Heavy destroyer, allowing the knights to kill 2 units in melee, giving Jahson one of my objectives as well.

When all was said and done that added up to a score of 30-0 in favor of my opponent. Had I made my armour and broke the bike (I know ...coulda, woulda, shoulda) It would have been a draw.

It was a fun game and my opponent was great. I wished him luck in his last game and went on to round 4. (My opponent did get to the top 16 and even the top 8 before being knocked out).

Rnd 4.

Last game of the day...my leg was not feeling pleasent at this point so I was hoping for a light/fun/ tactical game 4.

Mission was 6 objectives worth 1 pt per turn and 4 pts per objective held at games end (I think somewhere between 3-5 pts a piece). Dawn of War deployment.

Opponent - Eric....I think. I forget, Im horrible with names. He was from Houston and said he did well at the LVO and was pretty cool to play against.

His list

Eldar Decurian thingy

Farseer on bike
3-4 Bike Squads

2 Wraithknights (Same loadout as last game)
5 or 6 Warpspider units
2 Swooping Hawk units

Yuck.....so a list like last game only less farseers and bikes, more warp spiders.

This game I had choice of turn so I went 2nd just to keep the troop units and warp spiders from dashing to objectives at the bottom of the turn.

The game was fairly back and forth with us each losing some deathmarks here, some jetbikes there. My scarabs grabbed the farseer attached to a troop unit to hopefully pull the Wraithknights back to the center of the board. They were standing in the center of the board but next to my deployment zone. There was no escaping the Knights at this point and they decided to doubleteam the wraith/orikan/Dlord unit. As luck would have it The Wraithknights were not rolling 6's for the D melee weapon or stomps, but my wraiths werent making their rends. Orikan had gone nuts and with the D lord, were slowly killing the Wraithknights. At games end the shooting one was dead and the melee one was down to 2 wounds tThat was much easier when they werent invisible). I felt I had the advantage when I made a mistake. My Night Scythe was shredding jetbikes, and I did not know swooping hawks could vector strike (essentially) a flyer. I was too close and they took the Scythe down. This kept me from getting a few points and I managed a 26-4 win.

The game was fun, and until one of the Knights went down was very up in the air, and those are the best kind of games.

I managed 72 Battle points but I was nowhere near the 90-100 it would take to get into the top 16.

It was a fun tourney as usual. The next day my brother and I won best generals in the Long War doubles tourney, and our team finished in 19th in the team tourney. All 8 of my games between those events were a ton of fun as well (the wins and losses) and many of them were very tense and down to the wire. There were many highlights.

Getting a chance to play Kenny Boucher again in the Long War tourney (he was paired with Black Blow Fly (Steve)). We hadnt played in 5 years or so
Fighting a rainbow looking Tzeentch army in the Team tourney that had 42 summoning dice
Nearly taking out a Wraithknight turn 1 of my final game for the weekend and it was the only model on the board. It came down to the Feel no Pain roll and if they failed it we would have won 30-0 on turn 1. They did make the save and that sucked, but it was so epic and gutsy I had a good laugh.
Meeting more folks I had never met/played before

Due to the bum leg I didnt get much of a chance to get around and check things out, but I had a blasat nonetheless. I would recommend anyone come and give Adepticon weekend a try, there are plenty of events to get into from freindly to competetive, so you should find your goldilocks zone no matter what type of games you like.

Thanks for the write up, sounds like it was an all around fun time! I was just curious to know, how well did the Celexus assassin perform/how beneficial was it to your list?

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

The assassin wwas ok. Being come the appocalypse allies I either infiltrated to mid board or outflanked. Game 1 I infiltrated the assassin out of LOS to the Orks to contest the cenbter 12" for a couple turns, and she couldnt be charged. So she worked that game. Against the Slaaneshi army she couldnt get close to the seekerstar, but invisibiliity disapeared due to perils, so the assassin jus grabbed linebreaker. Game three she came in on the wrong flank, so she went and grabbed 1 of the 4 objectives and made enough saves to survive and hold the objective at games end. Game 4 her shooting killed a 4 man jetbike squad and killed the remnants of another in melee. I believe at games end she held an objective as well. Enemies that had psykers definately kept their distance, but were so fast I never closed in on any psyker. I had no pod delivery and I had never tried the assassin with my Necrons, so I was sort of making it up as I went. With some practice I think its a fine addition to the Necrons. I took the assassin to try to keep Invis. off of thirsters and T. Wolves, but I never fought any.
