Subject: Dash w/ Kanan Crew, could it be a thing?

So, liking maneuverable ships, I've been looking at running Dash to give him another try this week at X-wing night. I've come across something I think is interesting, though I doubt I'm the first to think of it...
Anyway. Dash w/ Kanan crew. Boom, super unpredictable Dash, could it be a thing? Same cost as Dash w/ Kyle, less action economy, but he can do anything but the k-turn on his dial and clear his stress, making the doughnut hole a LOT less of an issue in my mind.
Thoughts?

I tried it last week but after only one game, I can't really tell you if the ability to clear stress by selecting almost any maneuver on the dial was worth loosing one 'action' per turn. Mostly because I was flying it alongside another big ship, against a pair of Jumpmasters so getting out of arc wasn't really a thing.. but bumping sure was!

It's worth it.
OP: Kannan on Dash was pretty popular point of discussion as soon as he was spoiled. It completely frees up Dash's dial; losing a free focus is easily made up for by being able to make any maneuver you want.

Yeah I figured it would have been discussed at some point, I just didn't notice the potential until I was going through options in Squadron Builder today and noticed the wording in Kanan's crew card means it applies to the ship he's in as well as other friendlies.
I'm definitely trying it tomorrow night, just seems too fun not to, and it will probably throw people off quite a bit as I doubt anyone at the LGS has thought of it...

It's a choice between more overall maneuvering options, or better actions economy.
I should say: Kyle+Dash has deceptively good maneuvering options, since he can barrel+boost at will, and still get a focus token out of the deal. So even though you're limited to doing one of your four green maneuvers, you in fact have a huge number of placement options. Seriously, get Dash out and just try moving him around with boost+barrel roll. He has an unbelievable amount of repositioning capability. Plus, that re-positioning happens at PS7, giving you an edge over low-PS ships.
What does Kanan bring to the table? You can actually use your hard turns, with no consequence to your action economy. You're much less susceptible to being blocked. He reduces your reliance on boost+barrel roll actions, for one - you can simply choose a desirable maneuver, rather than have to spend actions to move your ship. So while your overall action economy is weaker, you are less reliant on your re-positioning actions.
I think it's kind of a wash. I do think Dash+Kyle has a definate advantage over low-PS ships, as it facilitates are more reactive style of play (choosing good barrel+boost actions to dodge their arcs and avoid being donut-holed). Against high-PS ships, I think Dash+Kanan has an advantage, since it facilitates a more predictive style of play (being smart about choosing good maneuvers ahead of time). Here's where your wingmate matters - I think Dash+Kanan works better with a wingmate who would benefit from Kanan's ability to blow off stress (e.g., Poe with PTL and R5-P9).

It's not a wash. The ability to use the YT-2400's awesome dial while stressed is worth so much more than a free focus token from clearing stress.

No, just no.
The main draw of putting Kanan on Dash is for Dash to use the ability for himself. It would be a complete waste for you to use that to clear the stress from a wingman and have to rely on your own limited green maneuvers.

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Any recommendations for filling out the list on a Dash-Kanan 58 Special?
I kind of defaulted to pairing it up with Jan Ors, with EU, TLT, Lando, and Moldy Crow, with Adaptability.

Jan is fun, but she's an easy target; Corran is always a solid choice and so is regen Poe.
I've enjoyed pairing him with a AB/ AC Lothal Rebel with Hera and Chopper as crew. If isn't the most competitive option, but it's a fun one.

I really want to try pairing Dash with Keyan Farlander w/ SoT, E2 mod, Navigator, Adv. Sensors. and probably using 3 of the 4 remaining points for either prockets on Dash or Plasma Torps on Keyan. Might not be the most competitive option, especially in a 2-ship build, but Keyan pretty well goes wherever he wants, as does Dash, so there's that for a fun factor...
A Lothal Rebel was an idea that crossed my mind as well for a second ship, just for the bulk the ship has. It's not super maneuverable, but it's big and intimidating so it could draw attention away from Dash, might be something to try some time as well. Out of curiosity has anyone tried running a double 2400 list with Dash and one of the other 2400 pilots?

It's not super maneuverable if you rely on repositioning. But if you know your dial well and put Zeb on it so you can go ahead and bump the enemy (especially sideways if they move after you) and still fire, it's delicious.
Pairing it with Super Dash leaves it Phantom-less, however, so a lot more vulnerable to being shot in the back.
